Q: What is Homoeopathy?
A: Homoeopathy is a natural pharmaceutical science that uses various plants, minerals and organic matter in very small doses to stimulate the sick person's natural defenses. The medicines are individually chosen for their ability to cause in the body similar symptom the person is experiencing.

Homoeopathy is coined from the Greek word "Homoios" meaning 'similar' and "pathos" meaning 'disease' or 'suffering'. It is based on the principle of Similia Similibus Curentur which means "Let like be treated by likes"

Homoeopathy is composed of two highly systematic methods: Toxicology and Case taking.

Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are conducted through well-known hospitals and independent medical practitioners for existing products as well as those under development.

Clinical trials are not only time consuming but require complete infrastructure to conduct and monitor them which is often neglected by many homoeopathic companies. SBL spares no effort to subject its specialities to exhaustive clinical trials at reputed hospitals / institutions through reputed doctors / professionals before launching them in the market.

Through its R&D effort, SBL is able to constantly enhance the efficacy of its remedies, develop new remedies, utilize the curative qualities of new materials for relief from sickness, and rationalize the composition and processing cost of inputs as well as to keep costs and prices affordable.

In an effort to conduct pure research in homoeopathy the R&D department of SBL has completed the drug proving of Azadirachta indica folia (Neem leaves).

The people of India have long revered the neem tree (Azadirachta indica). The tree has relieved so many different pains, fevers, infections and other complaints that it has been called "The village pharmacy."

We as homeopaths are familiar with Azadirachta Indica as mentioned in the Materia Medica. This is the drug picture of the dilutions made from the bark of the tree. The main indication being that of fever with chill and rheumatic pains. The drug proving with dilutions made from the neem leaves was conducted on 15 provers.

 

The drug picture emerged is as follows:

• 2nd grade– Seen in at least 2 provers and clinically verified

Eyes:

• Pain in left eye, after sleep

Neck:

• Pain in parotid glands both sides

Introduction:

It need not be emphasized that scientific proving is the foundation rock on which the whole edifice of Homoeopathy is built up. Therefore provings can never be out of fashion or out of date if Homoeopathy has to live. There can never be enough or too much of them. In the Hering’s guiding symptoms alone, there are about 200 drugs which are either partially proved or not proved at all, and should have been proved during the intervening years since the publication of that monumental work. The vast supply of indigenous drugs and herbal wealth in India needs to be utilized, and these may well prove to be of immense value as Therapeutic armamentarium.

The Research and Development Department of SBL Pvt Ltd. is has successfully conducted the third pathogentic trial (drug proving) on the Morning Oleifera (Moringa Pterygosperma).


A brief description of Moringa Olelifera and its uses are as follows:

Family Name: Moringaceae

Botanical Name: Moringa Oleifera

Common Name: Moringa, Horse radish tree, Drumstick tree, Sahijan Parts Used: Roots, seeds, leaves

Moringa oleifera is an extensively available Indian herb, with each part of the tree having amazing therapeutic properties including mainly leaves, root barks, roots etc. The Moringa tree grows in several sub-desert and tropical areas around the world.  It has been used by natives for thousands of years to treat water, help prevent malnutrition, and aid in fighting a number of ailments and diseases.  Unfortunately, up until the last couple years, the Moringa tree, with its amazing health properties, has been unknown to most of the world.  Scientific research has found that Moringa Oleifera is packed with vitamins, minerals and essential proteins.  In fact, the leaves of this humble tree offer a powerhouse of nutritional value.


Uses:

The roots are acrid, digestive, anthelmentic, anodyne. They are useful in paralysis, inflammations, fevers, cough, cold, bronchitis, pectoral diseases, epilepsy, hysteria.


Leaves:

The juice of the leaves of Moringa oleifera is given as an emetic. In the Indian indigenous system of medicine, the leaves of Moringa oleifera are described to remove all kinds of excessive pain, useful in eye diseases, cure hallucinations, also useful in scurvy.

The seeds are acrid, bitter, anti-inflammatory, purgative, and are useful in neuralgia, inflammations and intermittent fevers.

Root-bark yields two alkaloids: moringine and moringinine. Moringine which is identical with benzylamine and Moringinine belonging to the sympathomimetic group of bases acts as cardiac stimulant, produces rise of blood-pressure, acts on sympathetic nerve-endings as well as smooth muscles all over the body, and depresses the sympathetic motor fibers of vessels in large doses only.

A decoction of the root-bark of Moringa oleifera is used as fomentation to relieve spasm. The root and bark are abortifacient.


The bark and the roots of Moringa oleifera are considered rubefacient and they are used as vesicants. The ground roots are mixed with salt and applied as a poultice to tumors.

Extra- Neutral Alcohol

Extra Neutral Alcohol (ENA) has defined specification by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS is formerly known as ISI). The ENA procured by us is of highest purity even beyond BIS specifications which is available with only selected few distilleries.

The ENA is transported and stored in high grade stainless steel containers and storage tanks to avoid any contamination or interaction with metal during transportation or storage. Thereafter, this high grade ENA is further filtered through 0.2 micron filters of millipore which are normally used by I.V. Fluid manufacturers to eliminate all contamination and impurities if at all present.



Demineralized Water

Demineralized water is used in the manufacturing process and for washing bottles, tubes, micropipettes, etc.

Could you please tell us about the performance of SBL in the last few years?

For the past several years, SBL has been constantly growing - both in sale and in profit by 30%. We could do so by -

Please tell us about SBL’s new plant at Haridwar?

As you know, the first modern homoeopathic plant in the country was established by this Company at Sahibabad (near Delhi). However, this plant was not tuned to the actual market requirement in the country. Based on our experience at Sahibabad factory, a second factory at Jaipur was constructed improving in all respects the concept of a modern homoeopathic factory already established at Sahibabad.

The Haridwar factory is our third most modern state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. The factory is not only fully air-conditioned, but great care has been taken so that the facilities may be considered as a garden factory, with greeneries and flower beds covering every inch of the available open space. With the commissioning of the Haridwar factory, the company is in a position to meet the ever increasing demand, without any problem, at least for the next five years.


Could you also tell us about the research activities and facilities at SBL?

SBL is the only homoeopathic pharmaceutical company in India whose R&D Lab is recognized by The Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India.

Among others, we are the only company where every liquid formulation is subjected to microbiological test. In case of liquid preparations while the product may show no contamination at the time of manufacture, there is a great danger that during storage, the product may develop fungi and other serious contamination. We wish all homoeopathic manufacturers subject their liquid preparation to such microbiological tests. We are aware that creating microbiological laboratory can be costly. But, if we have to ensure the quality of our products, we should not spare the cost.

Creating microbiological laboratory is a costly affair, but we have done so to ensure "World Class Quality", with no increase in the price, so we mean "Excellence at no extra cost".

The company is continuously engaged in research work to not only improve its own products but also finding new formulations for serious diseases like diabetes.

We have developed a combination which provides good control and management of NIDDM (Non insulin dependant diabetes mellitus). The product is still going through field test.
