• Knowledge, by contributing to teacher training.

We are perhaps at turning point in the history of our planet. Energy, both public and private, has a highly important role to play. Although energy is not accessible to all, since two billion people cannot access it, it nevertheless has a bearing on another collective public good, namely the climate. The global objective is to improve energy production, make it available to all and satisfactorily manage climate change. This is what sustainable development means. It is the challenge that our Group has taken up. By creating its corporate Foundation dedicated to making its contribution to the survival of our planet, Schneider Electric is in total keeping with its time.

As Schneider Electric's employees, we form an exceptional global community, a community which is representative of the diverse nature of our business. In my opinion, such diversity represents enormous wealth and strength. Our Foundation's message, which is to promote the long-term provision and use of energy for the greater good of humanity is an incredible reality. It reaffirms the common awareness of belonging to a very special profession, which is vital for the development of the human society to which we belong.

The Foundation's network-based structure provides an original and extremely well-adapted means for implementing locally-driven, strong human-factor and long lasting corporate sponsorship activities, in addition to energizing the players involved.

Delegates are selected at each site based on volunteerism that is recognized and "made official" via an appointment letter signed by the site's and the Foundation's managers for a two-year assignment. Today, the Foundation has 200 delegates worldwide (outside France, a delegate often represents 2 or 3 sites and heads up the team of correspondents in his or her country), with their mission consisting of:

• Selecting community organizations dedicated to the social integration of young people and keeping these partnerships alive.

• Creating local events which are adapted to the country's culture to get employees as involved as possible.

• Informing employees of the Foundation's activities at the site.

Schneider Electric created the Planet & Society Barometer in 2005 to measure its corporate social responsibility performance. With criteria covering people, environment, community and governance issues, the Barometer expresses our commitment to promoting sustainable development.

Monitoring sites, innovative production processes, reducing consumption.... In addition to applying international directives and regulations, Schneider Electric initiates with its partners concrete actions in favour of the environment.

The RoHS Directive came into force on 1 July 2006, it includes the elimination of Lead, Mercury, Cadmium, Hexavalent chromium, Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) It involves equipment categories that apply primarily to consumer goods. RoHS Directive applies primarily to consumer goods. "Although hardly or indirectly affected, the entire Low Voltage offering will no longer contain any of the six regulated substances by December 2008. Although under no obligation, our desire to remain a model Group from a sustainable growth point of view drives us".
