These carpets are purely a work of art dating back to 15th century Persian weavers introduced to Indian by the Mughals after which it progressively attained the high degree of perfection. These Carpets are known the world over for two things apart from being made in the beautiful vale of Kashmir, they are handmade, never machine made, and they are always knotted, never tufted. Hand knotted pure silk carpets are world famous for their softness and craftsmanship. Handmade carpets interwoven with silver and gold zardosi threads are also available. We also stock a wide range of Chain stitch rugs, Durries and Kilms. These rugs come in a variety of sizes, colours and designs. The rug looks like a carpet in which the pile is substituted by the texture. "Of all Indian textiles none excels in beauty, colour, texture and design - the famous Kashmir Shawl.” The basic fabric is of the three types - Shah Tush, Pashmina and Raffal. Pashmina is one of the world's most luxurious natural fibres, derived from a rare Central Asian mountain goat called the ibex found in the highlands of Ladakh, at 14,000 feet above sea level. Nomads living in the rugged and remote Himalayan Mountains tend to the goats. Only those goats found about 14,000 feet where high speed winds and freezing temperatures exist, possess a special undercoat of "pashm" (wool).Other long, coarse hairs envelop the goat and conserve the delicateness of the animals under fleece. It is this wool (pashm) which serves to make the shawls, referred to as Pashmina after being woven. "This type of goat is probably the most beautiful of all wool-producing goats," wrote S. Turner, England's ambassador to Tibet in 1783. "It is superior in beauty, colour and texture to all others." It is on pashmina shawls that Kashmir's most exquisite embroidery is executed, sometimes covering the entire surface, earning it the name of 'jamawar’.

We present to you the art of marble inlay or “Parchin kari” which was introduced in India in the 17th century by the Mughals. The Mughals who were known for their great passion for art and architecture brought with them many different forms of art during their rule, which was the golden period of India’s architectural history. “Parchin kari” was a little known art which was made famous by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, who envisaged the decoration of the Taj Mahal (today one of the seven wonders of the world) by this exquisite work, to fulfil the last wishes of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. The master craftsmen who specialized in this fine art of setting gems and semiprecious stones in marble came from Persia to decorate the Taj Mahal. So enormous was the vision of the Emperor that it took 20,000 highly skilled master craftsmen 22 years to realize his dream. Since then this exquisite art has been an integral part of the cultural heritage of India, and has been kept alive by the descendants of the great artisans who gave the world the mesmerizing Taj Mahal.
