About UsSHARA came into inception in 1994, the name was conceived putting the first two alphabets of Shalini, Rajiv Sirohi and Arushi Sirohi, a small family with great dreams.Over the years we have been contacted by girls, boys, men and women across the globe, who have the name SHARA, they ask us how we got the name and we ask them the same, we have found out over these last 10 years that the name has a meaning in lot of old testaments and texts and books.
We keep in touch with this fraternity!In 1978, Rajiv Sirohi, started his career in International Marketing, working closely with the handicrafts sector, exporting products created, crafted and produced in this sector to the international market, traveled all over the globe to promote the products and developed a passion, interpreting European and American fashion to gifted artisans and craftsmen in the cottage handicraft industry in India, the efforts were sometimes rewarding and sometimes huge failures, but he never gave up. With the same zeal and passion he started out on his own with a few friends and had his own enterprise in partnership, starting with Rs. 5000 (US$ 100) but a grit and vision to take over the world! After 14 years in this enterprise, which brought in the best names all over the world to work with like Debenhams, Hertie, Haase, Katag, Manor, Breuninger, Galeries Lafayette, Galleries Nouvelle, Sarmag, Pier Imports, Ahlens, Ikea, JC Penney and so on. The time had come to redefine and rejuvenate to meet the coming changes in the world, we worked with a telex then and a fax was a novelty! The digital world and internet was arriving.
In 1994 , therefore the new independent family venture was started to meet the new challenges, the first digital camera in 1995, The fast internet in 1999. The world changed and we changed to take on the new challenges – a new state of the art factory came up in 2001 on the outskirts of New Delhi, the new energy brought in Burlington Industries, Guilford Mills, Jo-Ann Stores, Restoration Hardware, Brylane Home. Now in 2009, having anticipated the economic meltdown, we are focused, to give the best product and best value for money to our customers.
The passion with the handicrafts of India has only grown over the years, the learning experience has been even more, the desire to improve with each new problem, the delicate observation and balancing of relationship with our dear clients increasing with the new challenges. About the OwnerRajeev Sirohi The unfolding of the dream story starts from a small village in north India, Kheri in Bullandshar district in Uttar Pradesh. A family of Hindu Jats, Sirohi’s have the origin from the Indus Valley who migrated to Sirohi district in Rajasthan and from there, went on to face the challenges of life in different parts of India, a part of the Shatriya sect, they were great horse riders and formed the backbone of the best cavalry. One such family settled in Kheri village, the family head Umrao Singh was in the British Cavalry his son Ganga Prasad joined the police force, his son Bhanwar Singh Sirohi joined the British Army in the second world war and then went on to do his Masters and Ph.D in Engineering from the prestigious University of Maine and Auburn Alabama in the US and worked as a scientist with the top Indian Agricultural Research Institute , his younger brother did a path breaking research in Plant Physiology on south pole, was the first Indian to set foot on south pole, the American Geographical Society has names a point called Sirohi point in South Pole in his honour. Rajiv Sirohi, the youngest son of Dr. Bhanwar Singh Sirohi had his early education in US and then went on to do honours graduation from the best science institution, Hansraj College, University of Delhi in 1976 in Botany, one of the favorite students of Dr. T.N.Lakhanpal, and was guided by his elder brother Ajit Singh Sirohi to change over to business management and in 1978 did his Masters in Business Management from the prestigious Banaras Hindu University under the able guidance of his professor and guru late Dr Abrar Ahmad.
