It runs in gunmental bush bearings. The drive to the workhead spindle which has MT-3, is by a step V pulley. The speed obtained through this pulley can be reduced by another bigger size pulley provided in the workhead housing. The workhead is built for grinding operation both with stationary centre and revolving spindle. Oil holes are provided for lubrication. Wheelhead: The rigid wheelhead spindle is made of nickel chrome steel EN-24 hardened and ground. It runs in white metal adjustable type bush bearings. The drive to the wheelhead is transmitted by two V-belts. Automatic wheelhead traverse in cross direction is on precision hand-scrapped V and flat guideways, and is hydro-mechanical type. The spindle is tapered (5o) at the front to receive the wheel flange. Oil holes are provided for lubrication of the bearing surfaces. Rapid approach is available in U-127 series and it is up to 40 mm.

They are suitable for tool room and production jobs to carry out cylindrical, face and internal grinding opeartions. These machines are classified in three different versions as stated below having 260 mm or 350mm maximum swing over table :- UCG : UNIVERSAL CYLINDRICAL GRINDER ECG : EXTERNAL CYLINDRICAL GRINDER ICG : INTERNAL CYLINDRICAL GRINDER Automatic Grinding Cycle: The automatic grinding cycle has Rapid approach Coarse feed Fine feed Sparkout and rapid retraction of the wheelhead and the infeed handwheel to the preselected position. The cycle also controls START/STOP of workhead motor, coolant motor and table reciprocation. In the case of long job, the termination of grinding cycle is selectable either at Left, Right or at Any position of the reciprocation table. While internal grinding cycle is on, wheel side always remains in retracted position. The total amount of Infeed and Fine feed as well as Feed rate of Coarse and Fine feed are selectable. There is optional arrangement to equip the cycle with an In-Process guaging device for direct measurement during grinding. Infeed System: The infeed is operated by precision ground cam. The movement of infeed slide (Wheel slide) is based on hardened, ground and preloaded roller guideways which guarantees stick-slip free movement and exceptionally fine repetitive accuracy + 1 micron. The plunge grinding at any desired approach angle upto 45o degree can be done. Single liver operates the complete grinding cycle. Considering work piece requirement, there is wide scope to select proper grinding cycle i.e. 1. Plunge 2. Traverse with infeed on L.H.S 3. Traverse with infeed on R.H.S 4. Wheel and work spindle: Spindles for the wheelhead and workhead are made of EN 24 nickelchrome steel ,duly ground and lapped. The wheelhead spindle runs in white metal adjusting type bush bearings and the workhead spindle runs in gun metal adjustable type bush-bearings. These special bush- bearings are de-signed in such a way that they can be collapsed on to the spindle with progressive scraping. This ensure a uniform ultrafine oil film clearance .Oil rings also ensure positive lubrication. Backlash on the wheelhead screw is effectively eliminated by spring load,the spring also holding the wheelhead down don the slideway. Special features: Workpiece accuracy is constantly maintained by the throw over lever in the hubs of the feed wheels through engaging expanding clutches which switch over from coarse to fine feeds. A high degree of swivel wheelheads which can be plunged at any desired angle or can be used to traverse grind steep tapers.
