Uttarakhand all set to host Winter SAF Games from Jan 7 [21-NOV-10]
The much-delayed South Asian Winter Games in Uttarakhand would now be held from January 7-19 next year, the IOA announced today.
All the eight South Asian Federation (SAF) nations namely Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan including the hosts are expected to participate in the Games. 'Bharal', the Himalayan blue sheep, has been chosen as the mascot of SAF Winter Games. The opening and closing ceremonies of the winter Games will be held on January 7 and 17 in Auli and Dehradun respectively.
The skiing event for South Asian Winter Games 2011 will be held at Auli from January 7-12, while Dehradun will play host to the Ice Skating and Ice Hockey events from January 14-19.
