Tucked in the mountain ranges in the eastern Himalayas, between Nepal and Bhutan, is the district of Darjeeling. Darjeeling offers the perfect tea growing region with rich soil, tropical rainy weather and well drained soil. There are officially 90 tea gardens in Darjeeling district. Bestowed to the British East India Company in 1917, Darjeeling is well known as 'Queen Of Hill Stations'. Darjeeling is also accomplished for its most aromatic Darjeeling Tea. Industry sources say that at present about 37 per cent of the total crop grown on the slopes of the eastern Himalayas is organic tea, as per certifications given by European and Japanese agencies.
