SIMONA with significant growth in sales volume and revenue during first half of 2010

Revenue up 22 per cent – EBIT grows to €6.1 million

Kirn, 25/08/10. Benefiting from a resurgent economy, particularly in the area of mechanical engineering, automotive and chemicals, the SIMONA Group recorded a significant increase in sales volume over the course of the first half of 2010. After a relatively sluggish start to the year, the Group was able to achieve double-digit growth from March 2010 onward. In total, revenue amounted to €129.7 million (prev. year: €106.3 million), which corresponds to year-on-year growth of 22 per cent. As at 30 June 2010, EBIT stood at €6.1 million, up 73 per cent on the same period a year ago. Owing to the spiralling prices for polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), however, margins declined over the same period. The growth in earnings is attributable among other things to a more expansive volume of business and the continuing commitment to cost streamlining, which resulted in a €3.6 million reduction in operating expenses.

Initial certification was granted as early as 1993. In addition, our unit dealing with products destined for the automobile industry is certified in accordance with ISO/TS 16949. SIMONA At K 2010  [06-SEP-10]
SIMONA City illustrates expertise in process engineering and strengths in customizing New: PE/PP FOAM, SIMOPOR-DIGITAL and pressed sheets for ice rink surfaces as well as pipes and joining technology for geo-thermal applications.

The motto chosen by SIMONA AG for its corporate presentation at the upcoming K 2010 trade fair is "Discover Thermoplastic Solutions". Within this context, a 3D model of a city – SIMONA City – will illustrate the wide range of sophisticated applications for which SIMONA semi-finished plastics, pipes, fittings and finished parts are used. Offering best-in-class expertise in process engineering and technical consulting, SIMONA is committed to promoting the use of plastics for a wider range of high-end applications, particularly within the chemical process industry. With manufacturing facilities in China and the Czech Republic, as well as a highly focused product strategy, the company has created an effective launch pad for expansion within this field.

Among the new products to be unveiled by SIMONA at K 2010 are foam sheets made of PE and PP. SIMONA ^® PE FOAM and SIMONA ^® PP FOAM have a closed-cell foamed core and coextruded outer skins, which provides an outstanding combination of low weight and high rigidity. The result: ex-cellent processing properties, high-quality surface finish and low water absorption.

SIMONA ^® Eco-Ice sheets made of PE are used for ice rink surfaces, thus making a major contribution to environmental protection, sustainability and energy reduction within this specific area of application. Ice rink surfaces made of low-friction plastic sheets offer tangible savings with regard to energy and operating costs. Thanks to this innovative solution, ice machi-nes and cooling systems are a thing of the past. The ice skates can be used directly on the plastic panels, which are securely joined to one another to form an ice rink surface.
SIMONA ^® Eco-Ice plastic sheets are suitable for indoor use, but can also be supplied as UV-stabilised panels for year-round outdoor use – with a ten-year warranty. SIMONA ^® Eco-Ice is available in various polyethylene designs: PE-HD (high heat resistance), PE-HMW (high molecular weight) and PE-UHMW (ultra-high molecular weight). SIMONA ^® Eco-Ice received the 2010 Industry Award and is among the top five innovations within the Energy & Environment category.

SIMONA ^® SIMOPOR-DIGITAL has been developed specifically for digital direct printing. As one of the first digital-print sheets, it has antistatic properties. This, together with the sheet's surface finish, facilitates ink acceptance even during high-speed processing. In addition, SIMOPOR-DIGITAL includes a specially developed white pigment that ensures bril-liant picture reproduction. SIMONA has also come up with a high-end product tailored to the needs of door manufacturers: SIMONA ^® SIMOSHIELD - PVC-T sheets have been designed with a visible and tangible wood grain finish.
