Work Environment & Child Labour Program
| We believe that a pleasant work environment is the base of good quality and so we maintain it inside the factory. We have also established a committee for Internal Health & Safety. The major work areas are: Fire Prevention: - This Committee ensures that the factory has the necessary fire fighting measures & precautions.
- Ensures that the factory has suitable fire extinguishers which are regularly checked.
- Ensures no smoking inside factory premises.
- Ensures that factory has suitable fire exits.
- Ensures that there is a recognised fire alarm and that all workers know how to raise the alarm.
- Ensures that trained workers are on duty as fire officers during working hours.
- Ensures that there is a fire evacuation drill which is well known to all the workers and is regularly practised, timed and recorded.
- Ensures that factory housekeeping priorities reduce the risk of fire from open flames, electrical wiring and flammable materials
Control of Hazardous Substances: - This committee lists out what materials are used in the factory and knows the hazards associated with different materials.
- Ensures that materials are clearly labelled in the local language and are stored safely.
- Ensures that workers are trained to handle hazardous materials safely and appropriately.
- Ensures that hazardous wastes are disposed off appropriately.
Worker Health: - Committee understands health risks associated with production and has a system to manage health issues.
- Communicates health system and risk to workers.
- Monitors health of workers and has First Aid boxes, atleast one per floor.
- Keeps a record of accidents.
- Provides toilets as per the factory laws and also maintains other health issues as per the Factory Act.
Machinery and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): - Ensures that appropriate PPE is always used.
- Committee keeps an up to date list of machinery.
- It knows the hazards and risks associated with each machine.
- Ensures that machines are regularly maintained with special attention to risk areas.
- Ensures that workers are trained to operate machines with the minimum of risks involved.
- Ensures that safety features are always used and adequate ventilation is provided in the factory.
Child Labour Programme: This committee maintains the law concerning Child Labourers and young workers. It maintains documentation of the ages of young workers (including stitchers). We are a major part of the programme run by SGFI in association with FIFA, UNICEF and other voluntary organisations, for detection and prevention of Child Labour in Football Industry in Jalandhar, Punjab (INDIA). An update is regularly sent by SGFI to all the major buyers, charitable organistaions and voluntary organisations. |
