About Us

SOLKAR SOLAR INDUSTRY LIMITED previously SOLKER INDUSTRIES LIMITED, was started in the year 1985,
by Mr.K.E. RAGUNAATHAN, an engineer with specialization in the field of solar energy, as a first generation entrepreneur. The company has its manufacturing facility at AMBATTUR INDUSTRIAL ESTATE, CHENNAI, INDIA. Initially, the company was started for manufacturing of SOLAR WATER HEATING SYSTEMS for domestic and Industrial use. The company is proud to secure the first ISI certification of the product in the country in the private sector and has installed nearly about 45000 square feet of solar collectors in the field in the last 20 years covering various domestic and industrial applications.

In the year 1993, the company entered into a partnership with a German professor Dr.SCHWARZER, for the manufacturing of SOLAR MEAL MAKER for the world market, with his technical support. This product is the invention of Dr. SCHWARZER, and is being manufactured only in INDIA for the world market.

In the year 1996, the company was converted into a closely held public limited company and entered into manufacturing of SOLAR PHOTO VOLTAIC MODULES with the State of the Art machineries imported from USA. SOLKER, manufactures solar PV modules from 1 W to 70 W capacity and has a manufacturing base of about 500 kW per annum production capacity.

During the years of existence, SOLKAR has received many recognitions such as - BEST SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIALIST IN THE COUNTRY IN 1995, MEMBER OF ADVISOR6Y COMMITTEE OF MNES FOR 2 YEARS DURING 1996-98, CHAIRMAN OF SOLAR ENERGY EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION IN TAMILNADU apart from being awarded UDYOG SHREE AND SHIRONMANI VIKAS AWARDS.
