Air Jet Mill

Sparkler manufactures Air Jet Mill ultra fine and contamination free grinding of Bulk Drugs, APIs (Pharmaceutical Applications), Pigments, Dyes & Food Colors, Inorganic and Organic Chemicals, Electronic Grade Materials, Ceramics, Glasses, Frits, Minerals, Ores, Insecticides and Heat Sensitive materials.

These are very sophisticated machines and generally used when other conventional grinding systems such as pulverisers, Multi-Mills, ball mills, vibro energy grinding mills do not answer the need for maintaining purity of product (as there is contamination of grinding media) or fine particle size or heat degradation in grinding process or water solubility etc. It is a comparatively costly process and the benefits must outweigh the cost of grinding (grinding cost per kg) to consider jet milling as an acceptable process for contamination free size reduction. Further, larger models require large air compressor for delivery volume of compressed air at the required pressure. A 100 SCFM compressor will have a motor rating of approx 25-35 KW while a 500 SCFM compressor will have a motor rating of approx 75-80 KW.

Operating Principle:

Sparkler Air Jet Mill has no moving parts. Its operating principle is as per diagram shown herewith. The required input energy for the grinding action is derived from the compressed air, which is fed into the mill through two diametrically opposed nozzles. The solid feed particles are air entrained through the hopper in one of the nozzles and are accelerated to relatively great speeds, where they impact at high kinetic energy levels in an impact chamber where the size reduction is effected by impact, attrition, compression and abrasion of opposing particles. The stream of pulverised particles in fluid suspension is directed tangentially into a static classification chamber. The finest particles (30-60%) having high ratio of surface to mass, spiral through a central opening in the rear face of the chamber as finished product in separation. Final separation from the fluid takes place in a bag collector or cyclone and collecting vessel.

Those particles, which are oversized and have escape fracture (40-70%) continue their path on the periphery of the classification chamber due to centrifugal force.
