Sand Guard |
| Sand guard is a pelleted human-grade psyllium product that is designed to clear a horses' gut of sand. Horses that have an incidental intake of sand are in a dangerous situation because sand can build up in the intestines and ceacum and cause colic and death. To help move sand through the digestive system veterinarians recommend psyllium. When it is exposed to water it creates a gel that traps sand and the sand is moved out of the system. Directions -- sand purge method: for horses grazing in sandy area: feed 6 ounces daily for 7 consecutive days. Repeat this once per month. At recommended feeding levels, a 10lb bag will last 3 months. Feed as a top dress on grain for palatability. Do not mix with liquids. Introduce slowly to picky eaters adding only 1 ounce on the first day and increasing dosage. |
