Scientific Glass Equipment

Share: FacebookTwitterStumbleupon

For over forty years Standard Scientific Glass Industries have manufactured the highest quality laboratory glassware and process plant components from heat resistant borosilicate glass for chemical, pharmaceutical, food/drink and allied industries.

Our range includes Scientific Glass Equipment, Scientific Glassware, Process Plant Components and Sight Flow Indicators.

Sight Flow Indicators

The Sight Flow Indicators are an in-line type that is used to provide 360 degree viewing of material flow through a line.  They are unique because the characteristics of the liquid can be viewed.  A typical sight flow allows observation of liquids through a glass pane while the full-view sight flow allows observation of liquids in transit through a more dynamic, three dimensional pipeline.

The Full-View unit is available flanged and drilled to mate your pipeline connection from 15 mm to 300 mm in size.  In addition to standard length models we offer customized lengths up to 1500 mm.  Standard materials of construction include MS - SS304 - SS316 frame, annealed borosilicate glass pipe section and PTFE seals.  The Full-View sight flow indicator can also be supplied with a graduated borosilicate glass pipe section for measuring application and a protective tubing of acrylic plastic.

The Full-View sight flow indicators are recommended for low-pressure applications and are best suited for vertical mounting.  Horizontal mounting is acceptable if there is no mechanical strain imposed on the borosilicate glass pipe section.

Process Plant Components

We offerProcess Plant Components. The term "process piping" generally refers to piping systems that convey chemicals under pressure or vacuum. It also is used to describe utility piping systems that are used in, or in support of a chemical process, such as plant water. Some places where process piping is used are obvious, such as chemical and petrochemical plants, petroleum refineries, pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities and pulp & paper plants.

The principal features of borosilicate glass used by us are its almost universal corrosion resistance and its low coefficient of thermal expansion.  The most important mechanical property of borosilicate glass is that the compressive strength is high and the tensile strength is low.  As a result glass process plants are supported from the lowest point.

Borosilicate glass equipments by its outstanding properties like transparency and universal resistance to corrosion ensures product purity and process visibility and has wide range of application in chemical, pharmaceutical, food/drink and allied industries and they form the basis for the construction of standard systems for such unit operations as reaction, distillation, evaporation, absorption, extraction and crystallization.

Interchangeable Laboratory Glassware

This section covers the comprehensive range of interchangeable jointed ware for every day laboratory work, which can be used efficiently for inter-connecting laboratory apparatus.

The range of interchangeable glassware is large and provides many products with standard ground sockets such as boiling flasks and Erlenmeyer flasks with a host of jointed tubular items, condensers and dropping funnels. The versatility of these joints enables any system to be easily and rapidly assembled and in operation provide an efficient, reliable connection which can be confidently used under a wide range of laboratory operating conditions.

All apparatus with interchangeable joints are manufactured from finest quality borosilicate glass which gives maximum resistance to thermal and mechanical stress and chemical attack.

Typical Assemblies

This section consists of diagrams of a selection of typical process units which can be constructed from the components detailed in Process Plant Pipe & Fittings. From the almost infinite variety of arrangements which can be built from our product range, we have selected those plants for which there is a particularly regular demand.

For clarity, we have simplified some of the drawings, omitting the supporting structures and coupling. For the same reason, the layout of the plants has been slightly re-arranged so as to show more clearly the component parts.

Our object in presenting the diagrams is to provide a guide for customers who may wish to design similar units. We will be pleased to advice on modifications or extensions required to adapt an arrangement to particular requirements.

General Laboratory Glassware

This section covers the comprehensive range of laboratory ware for every day laboratory work.

Chemical researchers have used glass containers because glass is transparent, thereby making the contents and the reactions clearly visible. However as chemists have to heat, cool & mix chemical substances, ordinary glass is not always adequate for laboratory work.

Laboratory work requires that the apparatus for handling chemicals/media offer maximum inertness when in contact with the widest range of chemical substances. The principal features of heat resistant borosilicate glass are its almost universal corrosion resistance, withstanding thermal shock without fracture, high temperatures without deformity and mechanical shocks from daily washing and sterilization; therefore, they form the basis for the construction of such apparatus.
