We are provide our clients with magnetic drum separator which are widely used for non electric separator for separating tramp iron from non magnetic material processed in bulk quantity for the purity of end products, recovery of metal. It has commercial value and protection of processing plant and machinery. We provide three basic separator designs for copping, roughing and finishing / cleaning applications. Each of the three designs can be supplied in single drum or multiple drum stages of taconite or magnetic and also for recovery for magnetic medium in dense media plants. The stationery magnet yoke is an assembly of Rare Earth Neodymium Permanent magnets. The rotating drum is available with optional rubber or stainless steel covers. The magnetic flux pattern will match the tank configuration for optimum performance. The features are as below:

Working Principle & Magnetic System:

• These have stationary Permanent Magnetic assembly, which possess uniform and everlasting magnetic field across the entire width of the drum
• It is highly effective over approximately half the drum circumference
• Our drum shells are manufactured using excellent quality non magnetic stainless steel, which revolves around the magnetic field
• As the material feed evenly from the chute falls over the drum, Powerful magnetic, field attracts and holds ferrous particles to the revolving shell
• As the revolving shell carriers the iron particles through the stationery magnetic field, the non magnetic material falls freely from the shell while ferrous particles are firmly held till carried beyond divider and out of magnetic field.

Operating Principle:

• A short special fabric conveyor belt envelope the magnetic roll and a tensioning idle roll which was driven by a motor
• A feeder discharges material on the belt on continuous controlled rate of flow at uniform layer thickness

Operation:

• As the product on a conveyor belt runs under the powerful magnetic field, ferrous material is pulled out of the product flow and held to the face of the magnet
• While using a manual-clean model, the collected tramp metal is held in place for as long as the unit has power
• For cleaning the unit, the power source must simply be turned off, which instantly releases the metal from the magnets hold.
• With Self-Cleaning models, continuous cleaning is made possible by a heavy duty clad belt that encircles the magnet on a series of rotating pulleys
• As ferrous metal is attracted and held by the magnet, the moving belt carries the collected metal outside of the magnetic field where it is then released beyond the product flow.

Range of Application:

In many industries, Star Trace over band Magnetic Separation and Magnets have become primary requisite for decades. These are used to remove magnetic parts from non-magnetic materials for projecting crushers, mills, processing plants etc. against too much wear and damage. Over band Magnetic Separations are sued for non­magnetic bulk goods with iron contamination, for instance cleaning of foundry sand, coal and the like. These products are also applicable for recovering magnetic material from ore, steel mill slag etc. Usually, Overband Magnetic Separations and Suspension Magnets are installed above conveyor belts, vibratory feeders or chutes. They pick up ferrous metal parts from the bulk goods. In most cases, the magnets can also be installed in an existing installation without much expense. While using Overband Magnetic Separations and Suspension Magnets, many factors must be considered for the various applications, and it is impossible to list them all in a brochure. Each application, material and kind of conveying involves different problems.

Owing to the shape (demagnetization factor), long, bar-shaped and large iron parts can be better separated than short, cube shaped bulbous and small iron parts. The efficiency of the Overband Magnetic Separator or Suspension Magnet depends on the pole size, pole distance, field intensity in the conveyor burden, lines of the material to be separated. Large burden depths, large lump sizes, sticky or humid material render the separation more difficult.

Rectangular Suspended Magnets

We, at Star Trace have been using cutting edge technology to design the performance of their Suspended Magnets over any belt conveyor, vibratory feeder or inclined chutes. It ideally suited for removing tramp iron in quantities where continually discharging magnetic separators are necessary. Iron is extracted against gravity from the flow of material and held firmly to the magnet face until the magnet is de-energized. The best position for installation is it an angel over the conveyor head pulley or at the discharge point of a feeder, where the material fans out and is loose. In this position the magnet will remove more iron belt speeds looking at it cost wise. This installation provides the best tramp iron removal for the money invested. Other installations have been made with the magnet suspended parallel to and above the conveyer. In such applications it is necessary to use a stronger magnet because tramp iron must be pulled through a fairly stable bed of material. Cleaning is simple-the operator just swings the magnet away from the conveyor, turns off the current and the tramp iron drops free.

In-Line and Cross-Belt Magnetic Separators:

The In Line or cross belt magnetic separators provide at continuous and automatic discharge of collected tramp iron. A cleared belt revolves around stationery rectangular electromagnet suspended over the belt. Any iron coming on the conveyor is attracted by the magnet and discharged automatically by the cleared. Rubber canvas belt has its own independent drive. This is especially desirable where the magnet removes large quantities of tramp iron and hence never requires cleaning or stopping of the main conveyor.

Eddy Current Rotor

Star Trace Eddy Current Rotor utilizes an alternate magnetic field for producing electrical currents in conductive metal. The electrical current produces its own magnetic field around an object, which opposes the magnetic field from the Eddy Current. This repulsion diverts the object from the product stream. Mass, conductivity and density influence the force and distance an object will repel.

Operating Principle:

The principle (simplified) equation for the magnetic attraction force on a particle is:

• Fm=Const. xVxXxHx grad H
• V is particle volume
• X is particle magnetic susceptibility
• H is magnetizing field grad H is magnetizing gradient

From this fundamental equation is evident that with homogeneous magnetic fields (grad H = 0) there is no resulting attraction force on the left particle. This is illustrated where the left part show the undisturbed and the right part a disturbed field. Field gradient is show here by the varying distance between field lines. Any sharp edge of small dimension will cause such a field distortion, and hence an increased gradient. The famous illustration of this is an ordinary permanent horse-shoe magnet and iron file achieving. Here the achieving will stick mostly to the edge of the poles due to the increased gradient.

The Star Trace High Gradient Magnetic Separator design is a reversal of a normal electric "bar" magnet. This overcomes many of the imitations of working within the air gap of the conventional horse a hoe shape. The most important advantage is that the return frame cross-section can be increased to cope with higher field strengths without saturation.

The resulting homogeneous magnetic field inside the solenoid is then manipulated inserting varying types of matrices into the canister. The type of matrix is a function of feed particle size. For coarser particle (up to 1mm) a grid of expands metal is used, and for very fine particle sizes (clay), steel wool is used. Matrix material is either stainless steel or another ferromagnetic material. In this way field strength, field gradients and matrix flow-through capabilities can be optimized for each case.

The magnetic separator is cyclic or discontinuous, since it must be stopped and demagnetized for flushing out the trapped magnetic particles. It use is therefore limited to feeds with low enough magnetic content, to permit acceptable cycle times. For applications with higher contents of magnetic a continuous variety of this principle, the High Gradient Magnetic Separator carousel, is available.

Optimum operating condones should be established from lab tests on representative samples.

Laboratory and small Pilot Scale Cyclic High Gradient Magnetic Separator

Our High Gradient Magnetic Separator Modes 10- 15- 20 10 cm bore Cyclic Laboratory and small pilot scale High Gradient Magnetic Separator is used in star Trace's standard laboratory tests to establish the separations conditions in mineral processing or purification and water treatment problems. Determination of the combined effects of the systems operating variable on separation or filtration efficiency is required to minimize cost of a full scale system.
