We were awarded the work of shuttering for the bridge. While designing the shuttering careful considerations of various parameters were needed to be considered. The bridge was required to be constructed for vehicular traffic above busy rail way junction. Following parameters could not be ignored or overlooked. No stoppage of rails was permitted. The sub-soil strata showed thick layer of black cotton soil underneath. The bridge was spanning 42M and placed skew to rail tracks. The weight of girder was estimated around 250 MT. The girders were pre-stressed. To achieve cost effective design and execution was need of the time. To support temporary pillars supporting shuttering under reamed piles were driven. Pile caps were cast and pillars were erected in position. The design for shuttering had envisaged open and shut type shuttering so that total of nine girders skew in position could be cast using same shutter thereby achieve cost effective solution. The shutter was designed to take care of concreting movements with help of bucket, de-shuttering and re-assembling of shutter for next casting. The 500 MT hydraulic jacks were placed on either side to lift the pre-stressed girder once it matures. Special seat and shuttering was designed to take care of the scheme. Subsequently the girder were shifted to it location by sliding it to the position with help of pulling and lifting tackles. Girder were cast uninterrupted and quickly.
