Sillimanite is a polymorph with two other minerals; kyanite and andalusite. A polymorph is a mineral that shares the same chemistry but a different crystal structure with another, or other, minerals. Sillimanite is the rarest of the three trimorphs. A variety of sillimanite is called "fibrolite". It is a common fibrous massive form.

Uses for dolomite are largely similar to those for Calcium Carbonate. However, its magnesium content excludes it from foodstuffs, pharmaceuticals, the sugar industry, etc. On the other hand, magnesium, like calcium, is an important bio-element, which is of interest in agriculture and forestry. Dolomite is therefore particularly suitable for the rehabilitation of over-acidified lands and waters.

A commercial use of calcium carbonate is its use in antacids, as filler in the paper industry, used in decorating and construction as well as its heated form, marble. Mineral specimens are not very common as it does not form very large crystals. However, it often replaces other minerals on an atom by atom basis and forms what are called pseudo morphs (false shape). The talc takes the form of the mineral it replaces. A specimen of what looks like milky quartz is quite a surprise when it not only has a soapy feel but can be scratched by a fingernail.
