These evacuated tube water heaters work using the natural energy of the sun to heat water up to a temperature of 85 degree Celsius. Easily installable, these systems are integrated with existing water heating systems such as geysers in houses, steam boilers in industries, or pressurized systems in hotels. Working on the principle of 'Thermo-Syphon', these comprises of a suitable collector and an insulated hot water storage tank where in light hot water heats up and rises in the collector naturally to the hot water storage tank. In case of larger systems the hot water is force circulated between the collector and hot water tanks.

Glass vacuum tube is the key component of the evacuated tube collector and each evacuated tube consist of a ‘tube in a tube’ where in outer tube is made of extremely strong borosilicate glass and the inner tube is made up of mild borosilicate. Outer tube is strong and can resist impact and is available with a diameter of 25mm. The glass used for constructing these tubes is coated with special selective coating which has an excellent solar heat absorption and minimal heat reflection properties. There is an elimination of conductive and convective heat losses from the inner to the outer tube due to the vacuum between the concentric tubes.

It is because of the round shape of the evacuated tube that there is a constant receiving of solar radiations from mid morning to mid afternoon. Reflection gets reduced once the sun rays are incident on the tubes at right angle. The reflective back plate reflects back any light through reflective back panels that passes between the tubes or reflects off the tube.
