Apples are a healthy refreshing, crunchy snack. They quench thirst and their acid content makes them a natural mouth freshener. The juice is honey sweet and spicy tart at the same time and the flesh is fragrant and crisp.

Nutritional Facts:
High in fiber, High in Vitamin C and Potassium, Low in Sodium, Almost fat-free.

How to Store:
The best place to store apples is in the refrigerated counters! Sliced or cut apples stay white longer if dropped in a bowl of water containing 2 tablespoons of lemon juice.

 
 

Banana

Banana
Bananas are characterized for their bright yellow colour and sweet taste. They contain all 8 amino acids, which our bodies cannot produce. Bananas are a great snack, part of a meal or dessert; in a milkshake, with cereal, or in a banana split. Bananas are available all year.

Good source of fiber, potassium and vitamin C.

How to store:
Bananas to ripen faster should be placed in the sun. Like other tropical fruits and tomatoes and bell peppers, never store bananas in the refrigerator. Below 8 degrees Celsius the fruit will decay from the inside. These fruits will not ripen but will turn black if refrigerated.

The most common use for papaya is to aid digestion. Papayas are the only natural source of papain, an effective natural digestive aid, which breaks down protein and cleanses the digestive track. They are also good sources of Fibre, Vitamin A and Vitamin E.

How to store:
To speed up the ripening process, place papaya in a paper bag with fruits that produce ethylene gas like apples, bananas or pears, loosely closed for one or two days.

 
 

Pineapple

Pineapple
Pineapple is one of those fruits that is considered heavenly to eat. The benefits of pineapple can be achieved through eating fresh, canned, or frozen pineapple or by drinking its juice.

Nutritional Facts:
The obvious benefits of pineapple are all the vitamins and minerals the fruit is loaded with. Its nutrients include calcium, potassium, fiber, and vitamin C. In addition it is low in fat and cholesterol.

How to store:
Fresh pineapple is quite perishable. If storing at room temperature, use within two days. Once trimmed and cut, be sure the pineapple is covered in juice in an airtight container, refrigerate and use within five to seven days. Let the fruit return to room temperature before serving/ eating to improve flavor.

 
 

Pomegranate

Pomegranate
The tough, leathery skin or rind is typically yellow overlaid with light or deep pink or rich red. The interior is separated by membranous walls and white, spongy, bitter tissue into compartments packed with sacs filled with sweetly acid, juicy, red, pink or whitish pulp or aril. In each sac there is one angular, soft or hard seed.

Nutritional Facts:
Pomegranate fruits contain polyphenols, tannins and anthocyanins - all are beneficial antioxidants. Interestingly, pomegranate juice contains high levels of antioxidants - higher than most other fruit juices, red wine or green tea.

How to store:
Fresh, unopened pomegranates should be kept at room temperature (out of direct sunlight) for a week or two and can last in the refrigerator for a month or more.
