In the bubble –cap plate is a horizontal device has large number of chimneys on which circular or rectangular caps are mounted which distributes the vapour through the liquid. Liquid moves down from plate to plate through passages. In the perforated or sieve plate is a horizontal plate with many round holes or rectangular slots for distribution of vapor through liquid . Designs are similar to bubble-cap tray so that both liquid and vapor flow through the perforations. The packed column consists of small solid shapes beds over which liquid and vapor flow in opposite paths. . The large size have horizontal redistribution decks.
