Tapflo CTV - With Focus On Safety And Running Economy  [27-NOV-02]

Vertical pump for transport and circulation of liquids in tanks.

Tapflo CTV is a new centrifugal pump for vertical fitting to e.g. drums and tanks where liquid needs to be circulated or transported. Taplo CTV has been developed for such operations as the surface treatment industry and other industries where corrosive liquids are handled. The seal-less design of the pump, together with the position of the motor above the surface of the liquid, simplifies maintenance and provides the pump with a long working life and good running economy.

The new centrifugal pump from Tapflo is fitted vertically in the tank and because the motor is positioned above the surface of the liquid, it is well protected from corrosive liquids. Tapflo CTV can be used to replace submersible pumps frequently used today in order to circulate liquids.

Tapflo CTV is made of three different materials; polypropylene (PP), PVDF and acid-proof steel, to meet all industrial demands. Moreover, the pump is available in an Atex-approved version, for use in explosive environments.

“The surface treatment industry is a typical target group for our new pump because they handle many aggressive liquids,” says Henrik Borisch, information manager at Tapflo AB. “The design of the pump, with its closed system, eliminates such things as leakage risk. This means it is safe to use and that toxic liquids can be transported safely without affecting working conditions.”

Minimises the risk of downtime

The positioning of the pump and motor make these easy to maintain and provides good running economy. The seal-less design and the simple day-to-day maintenance routines minimise the risk of downtime.

“In powerfully corrosive liquid environments, a submersible pump seldom survives longer than six months,” says Henrik Borisch. “But with out new top fitted vertical pump working life can be multiplied five, perhaps even ten times, and this adds to good running economy.

Stainless steel version for difficult conditions

For very difficult industrial conditions, where chemical treatments or electrolyte surface treatments that include the use of nickel chrome, Taplo have developed a pump version in polished acid-proof steel. Even caustic soda can be pumped with the new acid proof CTV pump version.

Tapflo CTV is manufactured in polypropylene (PP) and PVDF for applications within e.g. the paper industry and in two acid-proof versions, one being bright finished. Pump capacity is between 10.2 and 34 cubic metres of liquid per hour, depending on pump model.

Atex-certified Pumps From Tapflo AB  [14-SEP-04]

ATEX-certified pumps from Tapflo AB

Diaphragm pumps for explosive environments

Swedish pump manufacturer, Tapflo AB, is launching a range of diaphragm pumps designed for environments in which there is a risk of explosion. The pumps satisfy new EU directive 94/9/EC (ATEX 100a) which is now also mandatory for non-electrical equipment. The diaphragm pumps are operated by compressed air and are produced from conductive plastic material or metal. By using compressed air instead of electricity, the potential to be a source of ignition is eliminated. The certified pumps have type designation TX.

The new range of air-operated diaphragm pumps from Tapflo are produced from conductive plastic material or metal. The pumps are used for example for the transport of solvents, alcohols and chemicals which can form explosive gas compounds. The diaphragm pumps can handle most types of liquids, from volatile liquids such as different sorts of fuel to viscous liquids such as glue and paint. The pumps can function by direct running which is recommended in the case of viscous liquids or self-priming or submerged in the liquid.

EU directive 94/9/EC (ATEX 100a)

The new EU directive means that all equipment covered by the new directive must be updated with ATEX-certified equipment no later than 1 July 2006. Workplaces brought into operation on 30 June 2003 or later must be equipped with ATEX-certified equipment from start of operation.

“We have put a lot of effort into developing this range of pumps which meet the applicable ATEX requirements,” says Börje Johansson, MD of Tapflo AB. “We can see in this area major and important potential for sales of our diaphragm pumps in harsh working environments.”

The diaphragm pumps are compact and easy to position. The design and choice of material make them resistant to knocks and thus suitable for all types of environment, including environments exposed to external stresses. The choice of material such as polyethylene (PE) gives the pumps very good resistance to impact and chemical-resistance while the pumps made from polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) have high heat-resistance and excellent chemical-resistance. The capacity of the pumps is up to 425 litres a minute.

To minimise the risks of a shutdown, the pumps are made from very few components. They are easy to remove for servicing and part replacement.

Tapflo’s TX range of diaphragm pumps are approved for use in EX zones 1 and 2. All pumps must be earthed before starting operation.

Tapflo Buys 49 Percent Of Italian Pump Company?  [13-JUL-05]

Tapflo buys 49 percent of Italian pump company

Tapflo AB, with its head office in Kungälv, Sweden has purchased 49 percent of the shares in the Milan-based company, CDR Pumps. Tapflo will thereby have access to the Italian pump manufacturer’s vast technical competence as well as the company’s wide range of magnetically driven centrifugal pumps. Today Italian CDR Pumps has a turnover of about 3,8 M EURO, 70 percent of which is in the Italian market. The merger also gives CDR Pumps access to Tapflo’s extensive global sales organisation.

“Together with CDR Pumps we can now offer our customers a wider assortment of pumps, and further strengthen our position in our markets,” says Håkan Ekstrand, Export Manager at Tapflo. “Our customers will benefit from a stronger supplier who can provide products that largely meet all their needs for effective pump solutions.”

CDR Pumps, which manufactures magnetically driven centrifugal pumps, is a great complement to Tapflo’s pump assortment. The magnetically driven pumps are especially useful for handling poisonous, corrosive, or otherwise hazardous liquids. The pump system is completely contained thanks to the magnetic drive which prevents dangerous substances from leaking out into the work environment. The pumps are suitable for industries such as chemical processing or surface treatment. They are created and delivered in both metal and thermoplastic depending on the type of liquid to be pumped.

“With our robust export organisation, we believe we can double CDR’s turnover in a few years. The merger also gives us a very high level of combined technical competence, something that will become evident in future innovative pump solutions,” says Håkan Ekstrand.

Today Tapflo is represented, through its own company and its partners, in 35 countries, which gives CDR Pumps considerable export possibilities. Currently only 30 percent of CDR’s pumps are sold outside the Italian home market.
