TERTIARY BUTYL PER BENZOATE (T.B.P.B) is an active source of free radicals for high temperature (100-150oc) polymerization of vinyl, acrylic, allyl and olefin monomers.
It is suitable for heat – curing of unsaturated resins. It is commonly used when long shelf-life is required, as in sheet/dough moulding compounds (SMC/DMC). The usage level is normally 1% - 1 ½% on the weight of the polyester resin, depending on the formulation and the curing conditions.
Its gives better surface finish on the mouldings.
It is also used as a cross – linking agent for natural and synthetic rubber, silicone rubbers.
It is used as a drying accelerator for paints and varnishes.

Applicatons :

DI-TERTIARY BUTYL PEROXIDE (D.T.B.P) as a ready source of free radicals, finds applications in production of the following high molecular weight polymers; polyacrylates high styrene resins, polystyrene, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene resins, styrenated esterified epoxy resins and alkyl polymers among others.
It may also be employed effectively as a coupling and vulcanization agent in the production of vulcanized rubber. Another general application is in the modification of bodying of unsaturated oils.
