A cover assembly is used for paint can has an annular sidewall and an annular chime which extend radially inwardly from the sidewall adjacent to an open end of the can. It also includes a lid which is correctly dimensioned to overlie the open end of the can. Further, a conical resilient seal is attached to an underside of the lid. The seal engages an inner annular edge of the chime with the lid positioned over the open end of the can and locked to the can. A snap-in locking ring detachably secures the seal to the lid.
