The Indian handpaper history dates back from fifth century A.D. in China.
Chinese had a monopoly on papermaking art and had concealed its methods for centuries. It was through a fateful battle along the banks of river Talas in 751 A.D. between the two Turkish rulers, one assisted by the Arabs & other by Chinese army of Kao Hsien Chinh.
The Arabs won and captivated Chinese among whom were a few papermakers, that made the benchmark for spread of the craft.
With invasions of muslims in the sub-continent, the art came to India in fifteen century A.D. and today it has the largest population of handpaper makers in the world.
The Indian handpaper is 100% Eco-friendly and employment generating process. The papers are recycled from cotton rags with exception of a few made from regenerating plant''s bark. The manufacturing process is predominantly manual & nature based with no pollution.
As a part of decorations, it uses different embellishment like husk, straw, jute, flower petals, herbs, algae, grass, silk, wool, mica, metallic dots and other different fibers. The art also incorporates a wide variety of textured surfaces and color coated papers for drawing & craft utility.
Papers are made based on specifications defined by the embellishment, ingredient(s), thickness, colour and size over a minimum manufacturing order.
Papers are converted into beautiful products, which can be used as unique gift options, home decorations, office accessories and other utility products. |
