Process Involved In Production

Chikankari is a delicate hand embroidery that can be done on a variety of textile fabric like muslin, silk, chiffon, organza and varied other fabrics. White thread is embroidered on cool, pastel shades of light muslin & cotton garments.

• Design
The design is decided upon on the chosen fabric while the stitches are decided according to the design to be used in the embroidery.

•Engraving
The selected pattern is then engraved on a wooden block or at times sketching is done manually.
•Block printing
Once the block is ready the printing is done on the fabric. Printing is carried out with the use of wooden blocks that are dipped in dyes like neel and safeda to make a pattern.

•Embroidery
The printed fabric then reaches the craftsmen who get to work with the cloth stretched by a wooden frame that is also known as Karchop. They do the enriching embroidery using a variety of stitches.

•Washing & Finishing
After the embroidery, the fabric is sent to the laundry where it is thoroughly washed & given the finishing touches that includes bleaching, acid treatment, stiffening or starching and ironing.

Innovations & Experimentations in Chikan Work
The color selection for chikan has undergone a sea change over a period of time. The voiles & mulmuls & pastel shades have been replaced by fine georgettes, tussars and silk. These exhibit the Chikan work in symphony with the traditional & western designs & trends. We are also experimenting chikan work with more detailing like zardozi, crystals & so on.

Refinement Of Taste
There has been significant refinement & change in the preferences of the clients. Chikan embroidered garment is not only considered as casual wear but is also available in patterns suitable for formal wears.
