Chemical Reactors

The design of chemical or pharmaceutical reactor has to cover several issues. These systems are often customized according to specific customer requirements. Sometimes the reactor needs to be in stainless steel, sometime in Haste alloy C22, sometimes with limpet coil and heating jacket, sometimes it has to withstand high pressure. These are requests for solid feed or powder dosing using high containment solutions that have to be added to the reactors as well as pH control, sampling, nitrogen purging/blanketing. In most cases these reactors are installed in flame proof or hazardous area, so they have to be approved as flame proof certified equipment.

Inside the reactors, many accessories are available. Stirrers (Agitators) are to be defined according to the processed media and process itself. Stirrer shapes can be impeller, anchor or others, arranged as single stirrer or as multi stage stirrer. We use current – up to date technology to first define flow diagrams (PID or P & ID). Our reactors are used for following industrial process applications:

Distillation/Rectification.
Phase separation of azeotropic mixtures.
Multi-component reactions.

Based on multiple effect evaporation with falling film & forced circulation to evaporate spent wash. Usually five effect is used for spent wash evaporation. Spent wash is feed to preheater & enter to effect first for thermo vapor re-compression. Vapor of each effect will be used for heating of next effect. Unique features are :

Unicon Fermentation System

Unicon Fermentation System

Unicon is a Continiuos Fermentation process in which fermentation is carried out in series of fermentor (mostly 3) are used in series in a view to maintain 20 hr retention time to complete fermentation process. Alcohol percentage rises in each fermentor i. e . 8.5 to 9.5 v/v. This process uses yeast strain which gets self immobilized during growth phase The process does not require centrifugal separation of yeast for recycling. The yeast once added produces Alcohol (Ethanol ) continuously for some period.

The process has been developed to improve the fermentation yield of Ethanol per ton of molasses and Fermentation efficiency up to 90 % of theoretical value (Based on fermentable sugar concentration in molasses).

Multi-Pressure Distillation

For distillation operation Multi-pressure columns are especially useful whenever we have to carry out operation at low pressure i.e. Vacuum distillation and whenever we are dealing with heat sensitive materials. These columns contain a cylindrical shell of SS304 material with Trays fitted along with Down comers and Risers. These trays are of different types such as Grid, Bubble Cap, Tunnel etc. and offer large interfacial area for mass transfer A common arrangement for distillation operation is wherein vapor flows upward and refluxed liquid flows downward giving continuous contact.

These columns operate on vacuum or Atmospheric pressure as per its function e.g. the Analyser or Pre-Rectifier column operate in Vacuum while ED or Simmering column operate on Pressure. Another important feature of this is Indirect heating i.e. there are Reboilers attached to these columns by which the steam is not directly injected into Column but vapors heat the liquid. There is recycling of these vapors and condensate so as to achieve maximum energy utilization.


 
 

Pilot Plants (Grid Mounted)

In R&D as well as in Pilot and Kilo labs of pharmaceutical companies or life science companies, the reactors are used for multiple processes. They are often used as batch reactors. The operations temperature for such reactors can be from -85 ºC up to 200 ºC. These reactors are called low temperature reactors or cryogenic reactors, since often used in pharma research, people also refer to them to them as pharma reactors. When using in Pharma, other aspects like choice of used materials, easy cleaning ability etc. has to be respected too.

The distillation overhead usually consist of glass or metal feeding vessels or feeders, a distillation column and receiving vessels or receivers. For the considerations, we use glass spiral condensers or shell and tube type heat exchangers in glass or silicon carbide (SIC) or metal, and an additional condenser as vent condenser. Glass valves are used in the systems for different purposes.
