CCD dome type and board lens cameras, also known as dome camera are mini cameras that are based on CCD technology. These cameras feature a lens mounted on the circuit board and are imparted with charged coupled devices (CCD). This technology is used for converting light into electricity to represent picture information. Commonly available in 1/3, & ,,sizes and larger sizes of,, & 2/3, (used rarely), CCD is a better technology as compared to CMOS ,complementary metal oxide semiconductor , that has a disadvantage of getting heated up very soon.

The C/CS camera mount and verifocal cameras are variable lens cameras, which are used for covering long-range distance in vast and open areas. Contrary to the fixed lens camera that has distance coverage of up to 35 - 40 ft, these C/Cs cameras can cover large distances by varying the lens. The variable lens of these cameras can vary the focus from 4mm - 50mm that can provide a 70 degree angle focused up to 35 ft. These higher millimeter lens give sharp facial details but narrow the field view.
