The DM Group, formerly known as the Mantri Group, was founded by Late Mr. Govind Prasad Mantri in 1948. Starting off from activities of jute trading, the group diversified into the cultivation and production of tea with the acquisition of the group┐s first tea estate in 1954. Subsequently, the group has expanded substantially not only in the tea industry, but has also created a presence for itself in the auto components manufacturing business, after its foray into the engineering industry in 1978.
Presently, the DM Group is a multi-divisional conglomerate with interests in Tea, Engineering, Marketing Services and Financial Services. Head-quartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, it has operations in Assam, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra. All of the four tea estates of the group are located in Assam. Also, the group has four manufacturing facilities producing a host of automobile components, along with other product lines.
The main group companies are Manipur Tea Co. Private Limited, Ruttonpore Plantations Private Limited, Derby Plantations Private Limited, Mantri Tea Company Private Limited, Vijayshree Industries Private Limited, Suprabha Industries Limited, Mantri Engineering Company Private Limited, and Mantri Udyog Limited.
The Chairman of the Group is Mr. Devendra Kumar Mantri, who is the younger son of Late Mr. G. P. Mantri. He has been heading the group since 1979. Some of the other senior members of the management team are Mr. Bal Kishan Toshniwal (Director), Mr. Kamlesh Singh (Resident Director, Tea), Mr. Shashankdhar Mantri (Director), Mr. Babu Lal Goel (Director, Commercial), Mr. Girdhari Lal Sharma (Director, Commercial), and Mr. Pradip Kumar Saraogi (CEO).
Building on the growth achieved by the Group in the past decade, it now aims to be a leader in the entire product range it caters to, with high quality products and services. In the coming years, the group has chalked out an elaborate plan to expand and consolidate its core businesses by adding more value to its entire range of products, and by diversifying into other manufacturing and non-manufacturing activities of strategic interest.
