their low heat conductivity helps to prevent temperature drop in the molten aluminum bath and contributes to energy conservation. since the tubes are of ceramic material, there is no iron pick-up to create inclusion in the aluminum

these sheaths mainly used in glass-flask-billiards-foundries-forging- petrochemical industries, where temperatures are above 1150°c & 1600°c. Or used in critical applications where noble metals are of no use. In some applications where there is vibration 610 sheaths gets break & in case of 710 type sheaths gives good life. The Alpha Rod Heating element is a resistance type silicon carbide heating element. The elements are rod shaped or tubular depending on the diameter. They have a central heating section referred to as a hot zone and two terminal sections called cold ends. The cold ends are impregnated with silicon metal to lower their resistance. This. Causes them to, operate at a lower temperature. The extremities of the elements are metailized with aluminum to provide a low resistance contact surface to which the electrical connections are made with braided aluminum straps.

Sheathed thermocouple probes are available with one of three junction types: grounded, ungrounded or exposed. At the tip of a grounded junction probe, the thermocouple wires are physically attached to the inside of the probe wall. This results in good heat transfer from the outside, through the probe wall to the thermocouple junction. In an ungrounded probe, the thermocouple junction is detached from the probe wall. Response time is slowed down from the grounded style, but the ungrounded offers electrical isolation
