Our company provides boron coatings, also known as boronizing services in its plating and coating service range. It is a thermo-chemical surface treatment in which boron atoms are diffused into the surface of a work piece to form borides with the base material. It provides wear and abrasion resistance comparable to sintered carbides when applied to the appropriate materials. Some salient features of boronizing are:

  • High hardness of 1600-2800 HV can be achieved on steel alloys
  • Hardness is retained up to sub-critical temperatures (i.e. 1200° F)
  • Heat treatable materials can be fully hardened after boronizing to optimize performance
  • Boronizing increases resistance to acids, Hydrochloric acid in particular
  • Boronizing can be selectively applied to only the area that requires hardening
  • A broad range of materials can be treated, including ferrous metals, some super alloys and sintered carbides
  • Boronizing can be uniformly applied to irregular shape

Ferritic nitrocarburizing is a variation of the nitriding process. It is a thermo-chemical diffusion process where nitrogen, carbon, and to a very small degree, oxygen atoms diffuse into the surface of the steel part, forming a compound layer at the surface, and a diffusion layer.
