Why I think drywall will not work in tropical climate in Africa.
The biggest flaw with drywall is that they are easily damaged by water. If the waterpoofing is not done correctly the drywall will swell up and disintegrate (cement boards are better).
The other think is that as it stands now, it is manufactured only in US, Canada & Europe (bcs it is extensively used there). Because of this, the cost to import the drywall could be too high for some construction company. Drywall; however, do not require a lot of labor as Concrete block or brick, so there is a little hope there.
The advantage to our current construction system is that we have an abundance of skilled labor in Concrete block and brick; we even manufacture it ourselves. The other thing is that they provide stronger (structurally) construction compared to drywall techniques.
if we wanna look at some alternative construction for our part of the continent I will suggest Cement Boards instead of drywalls.
(Drywalls are made of paper or fiber; they are combustible.)
