About UsVM Biotech, established in 1990, is actively engaged in Research and Development of Commercially Viable solutions, aiming at Qualitative and Quantitative improvement in Agricultural produce. The founder, Mr. V M Kulkarni , Microbiologist by profession, developed R & D facilities, now grown into a full scale Research Center and recognized by DSIR, Government of India. VM Biotech initially focused on Sugar Cane and Sugar Processing. Adopting scientific methodology, Mr. Kulkarni located the areas offering chances of improvement in Sugarcane Farming to Sugar Manufacturing.
Loss of sugar due to microorganisms was known but quantifications methodology at every stage was developed and adopted by Mr. Kulkarni, first time in India. Once the stage and extent of loss was known, Mr. Kulkarni concentrated on vital areas to reduce microbial sugar losses. Extensive research resulted in Polmax- ESR and Polmax-Supreme , biocides offering rapid killing action to minimize microbes within first 10 minutes to 1 minute respectively. Patents protect rapid action of these biocides. These products received overwhelming response from Sugar Industry and as of today, VM Biotech supplies Polmax-ESR and Polmax-Supreme to more than 50 sugar mills.
Mr.Kulkarni, encouraged by positive response from research community as well as by industry, concentrated on Cut to Mill delay (post harvest deterioration), which is considered inevitable. Loss varies from 0.50% to 2.00% on cane, depending on various factors. After conducting numerous experiments and trials, Mr. Kulkarni developed a technique to treat cut ends by a chemical formulation, preventing deterioration till mill stage. This product named as Sucroguard , is now available commercially. |
