STAUFF UK Ltd. win major contract
with world''s largest rail equipment
manufacturer

Part of International pipe clamp and hydraulic accessories manufacturer, Walter Stauffenberg GmbH & Co. KG from Germany, STAUFF UK Ltd. have secured a five year contract with the world’s largest company in the rail equipment manufacturing and servicing industry, to supply sub-assembly kits of manipulated tube, clamps and bracketry for the London Underground (LUL) Sub-Surface Line.

London Underground (LUL) is one of the world''s oldest metro systems carrying just over three million passengers each day, rising to 3.5 million passengers on weekdays. In 2007, more than one billion passenger journeys were recorded, making it the third busiest metro system in Europe after Moscow and Paris.

STAUFF UK Ltd. have been suppliers to the rail industry for nearly 30 years, starting with clamps on the 1979 Tubestock through Metro Cammell.

Their move to new premises in 2007 on a 2.91 hectare site, included significant investment in new production, testing and logistics technologies. This provided opportunities to work with major industries, with design and development partnerships resulting in standard products being upgraded for safety critical applications, including  the MoD (Navy).

Investment benefit

Their specialist clamp manufacturing capability has enabled them to achieve the increasing safety demands of the Rail Industry, with clamp material PP6853 meeting the similarly designated BS6853 standards required by the industry.

With their new Hose and Tube Technology Centre investment, STAUFF UK Ltd. were also able to secure orders for  the manipulated stainless tube assemblies and bracketry, as a sub-assembly product to offer significant economies.

Clamp material PP6853 is potentially extremely valuable, capable of being moulded to any configuration, providing an industry solution for all pipes, tubes and cables support requirement, for both main manufacturers and sub-contractors alike.

Supply line benefits

The SAP controlled STAUFF logistics centre at Carlisle Street East - Sheffield, part of the new site development, brings the other major supply benefit. The Viastore, a 12m high storage tower contains 29,000 locations accessed by 3 automated picking machines, serving 5 picking stations, each dealing with up to 5 orders at a time. In full contract supply mode, STAUFF UK Ltd. expect to service the orders direct from the store utilising the location storage bins for delivery, improving turnaround time and reducing packaging impact.
