Calcite is the purest form of Natural Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3) it occurs naturally as a crystalline, rhomboheral shaped Calcium Carbonate. It decomposes in acids, has a Mohs hardness of 3 and specific gravity 2.7 to 2.9.

Wolkem has remained India’s largest producer of Calcite for over several years and till today it is India's largest GCC producer.

Kaolin is chemically a Hydrous Aluminum Silicate with Al4[Si4O10](OH)8. It is also known as China Clay. It is a naturally occurring platty mineral and has a major content of Alumina called Kaolinite. It is soft white clay of variable but usually low plasticity, and dry strength that retains its white color when fired. It consists partly of crystalline and partly of amorphous material.

Wolkem has entered the Indian Kaolin business only in mid 2004 by acquisition of a ten year old running business in Kerela in South India. Its major strength is its extensive mining reserves in the richest and best Kaolin mining belt of India, to add to its strength is its newly furbished state of the art clay processing facility, duly equipped with the latest processing technology & quality control laboratory.

Talc is a Hydrated Magnesium Silicate with the chemical formula Mg3 Si4 O10 (OH)2.. It is a naturally occurring platty mineral. It can be white, grey, green, pale green & gray white in color. It has a Mohs hardness of 1, has a vitreous-pearly luster, a white streak and has a density of 2.75.

Talc is valued for its extreme softness, smoothness, hydrophobicity, high lubricating and hiding power and for its ability to absorb oil and grease.

Talc is practically insoluble in water , weak acids and alkalis. It is neither explosive nor flammable. Although it has very little chemical reactivity, talc does have a marked affinity for certain organic chemicals, i.e. it is organophilic. Above 900°C, talc progressively loses its hydroxyl groups and above 1050°C, it re-crystallises into different forms of enstatite (anhydrous magnesium silicate). Talc's melting point is at 1500°C.

Wolkem’s Mined Talc in particular has a high purity, platy structure, an exceptionally super white color, with high brightness, less yellowness. It is available in sizes ranging from 100 mesh to d97=10microns, with whiteness ranging from 85% to 98%. It is also available in surface modified forms with varying coating chemicals & coating levels.

Processing Technology

Wollastonite is chemically a calcium meta silicate (casio3), it is a naturally occurring white & acicular (needle shaped) mineral, with mohs hardness of 4. 5. In addition to wollastonite’s unique morphology, it is alkaline, inert, has low loss on ignition, low water solubility, low co-efficient of linear thermal expansion and a melting point of 15400c. It also improves tear strength, dielectric properties and retains mechanical properties at elevated temperatures.
