The Teak we use | Teakwood has a life expectancy of 75 years if left untreated due to its natural rubber content that resists moisture. Teakwood is indigenous to many areas of the world including South East Asia, South America, and Africa. The teakwood that comes from these different areas vary in grain, color, and durability. Our teak furniture is constructed from only the finest cuts of solid West African teak. We are importing wood from West Africa Togo ( Lome ). Indonesian teak is also imported by manufacturing units, but we prefer African teak. The reason is that the Indonesian teak is from planted forests i.e. man made, while African teak is from natural forest. Nature's seasoning makes the African teak strong and long-lasting. African teak has the reputation as being of the highest quality teakwood available in the world today. | |

The Process & the selection | The Teak wood used in the construction of "Wood Star" Teak furniture is kiln dried to between a 8% - 10% moisture content to insure that it will last a lifetime. Other manufacturers only kiln dry to about 12 to 15%. If you would like exact details on how our kiln drying process is superior to other manufacturers then please mail us. Our furniture is manufactured with durability as a key factor in mind. Constructed with cuts of wood generally 3/4" to 11/2" thick, our teak furniture is first sanded by hand. This process is what gives "Wood Star" teak furniture its world famous "baby butt" smooth finish. We reject knotted wood and make quarter cuts on our logs to ensure that each piece of lumber does not have knots or grains that can split. Other manufacturers use inferior woods and cuts to save costs. | |
