About Us

XLO India Limited was set up in 1958 to manufacture fabricate Steering Gear assemblies, Propeller Shafts and Machine tools.


XLO India was founded on 10th March, 1958 formerly known as M/s Amerind Engineering Pvt. Ltd. In 1960, the company got technical and equity participation from Ex-cell-O USA and thus the name changed to Ex-Cell-O India Ltd. The company also obtained collaboration from Ross Gears & Tool Co. Ltd. (Division of TRW, USA) in 1961.


In 1978, the company became Indian owned & solely Indian as the name too changed to XLO India Limited. An overall expansion took place some and the manufacturing activities were shifted to Nashik during 1974/75.

In 1984/85, XLO underwent a major corporate restructuring program. Every product division became a separate company. The Machine Tools Division was sold off in 1995. The two products viz. Steering Gear Assemblies & Propeller Shafts are now being manufactured at two separate companies & at two separate plants.
XLO INDIA Ltd. is a closely held Public Limited Company with 45% Share holding with Unit Trust of India & General Insurance Company of India. 51% of the share holding is with Mr. S. C. Saran, Chairman & Managing Director.


The organization is headed by Mr. S. C. Saran who is a Mechanical Engineer from Carnegie-Mellon University, U.S.A. and an MBA (Finance) from Columbia University, U.S.A. The company is professionally managed and over the years, a cadre of qualified Managers and Engineers have been put together to man the divergent functions. At XLO, the focal point at all times has been on quality, skills and updating.
