Mechanical engineering is the Basic branch of engineering. It is also referred to as the 'mother' branch of engineering. Mechanical engineering is a discipline that applies the principles of engineering, physics and materials science for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest engineering disciplines. Mechanical engineering is a diverse subject that derives its breadth from the need to design and manufacture everything from small needle to a big Aeroplane.

Traditionally, mechanical engineers have to deal with concepts such as mechanics, thermodynamics, robotics, kinematics, structural analysis, fluid mechanics, CAD/CAM, Automations and many others. Mechanical engineers also contribute in the development of various engines, power plant equipment, heating and cooling systems and other simple and complex machinery.

Mechanical engineering branch was started in AIT in 2004 with 60 student's intake, now the current scenario is:

With the rapid urbanization in India, the pace of new emerging civil construction projects has also increased. This calls for the development of new infrastructure with specific knowledge about construction related design, planning, management, technology and activities.
With a view to meet the upcoming challenges and requirement in this area, Ahmedabad Institute of Technology introduced the branch of Civil Engineering from the academic year 2012 that focuses on the various aspects and parts of Civil Construction.
We offer a four year Undergraduate program, offering degree of Bachelors of Engineering in Civil Engineering in affiliation with Gujarat Technological University with a current intake of 120 students, which was 60 till 2013. We also have collaboration with Gujarat Institute of Civil Engineers and Architects (GICEA), thus providing students the advantage of using its library and attending the seminars without any fee. The department is well equipped with various laboratories like Mechanics of Solid, Surveying, Fluid Mechanics, Geology and Concrete Technology with the latest instruments where students are trained for acquiring the in-depth and practical knowledge about various tests.

The laboratory has setup to determine the various properties of different material and carry out experiments for different types of action on force. The laboratory is equipped with universal testing machine, izod impact testing machine, simple lifting machine, etc.

The laboratory is well equipped with surveying instruments like metric chain, prismatic compass, dumpy level, transit theodolite, plane table, auto level, planimeter and also the most advanced instruments like total station and global positioning system.

The main backbone of the course is educating knowledge of computer and its engineering . Almost all fields are computerized to have ease of handling the problems of designing, manufacturing, maintenance, servicing, researching, marketing and accounting.

The B.E. Computer engineering program includes computer operations on different languages, data generation , collection and utilization of information. The course imparts all the basics as well as latest knowledge pertaining to the rapidly developing field of computers. The course is designed to keep students in pace with the practical field.

The mission of the department is to produce and impart theory, principles, practice and know-importance of computing in the information age. This is require for the critical analysis, design, evolution and improvement of computing system in context of computers and industry services. It is our objective that student should be able to pursue advanced studies in computer engineering and information technology on a competitive universal basis.

The college has well established computer labs which are facilitated with IBM, X series Xeon & dual processor Pentium servers, IBM server and several hundred work stations connected in LAN & WAN.
