This course is mainly designed for all personnel appointed to the role of the Ship SafetyOfficer under the International Safety Management Code (ISM). The Ship Safety Officer Course isalways conducted in accordance with Merchant Navy Training Board course criteria. This training isbasically intended to meet the requirements set out in The Merchant Shipping (Health and Safety atWork) Regulations 1997 (the Regulations) and the main Code of Safe Working Practice for MerchantSeafarers (CoSWP).

 

Safety of the ship is the main prime concern for seafarers onboard and forgoverning authorities like IMO. There have also been many ship accidents in the past whichincludes collision, grounding, stranding etc. So, due to failure of one critical system- the steeringgear. Hence crew must be careful in maintaining and testing all the aspects of steering gearpresent onboard.
