window film transmission meter is an instrument for measuring the optical properties of uniform and transparent materials such as solar film, glass with film, heat-insulating glass and automobile side windsheild glass. We can select the measurement interface to display the infrared and ultraviolet rejection and transmittance

Window tinting on glass is not just decorative. It serves several functional purposes, including heat reduction, reducing harmful UV rays, enhancing privacy, and preventing upholstery fading. However, there are safety limits on how much tint you can legally apply to your glass windows.

Professionals use the tint darkness scale to measure Visible Light Transmission. The scale expresses Visible Light Transmission as a percentage (VLT%). When VLT% is “adequate”, authorities judge that a road user has a minimum, safe level of visibility outsode glass.

How Do Tint Meters Work?

You place the glass you wish to measure inside of the tint meter. A light of a known frequency (usually ~550nm) then passes through the medium. Depending on the type of tint meter, on the other side of the glass, there will be either a:

  1. Sensor to catch the light and calculate the reduction in light strength; or a
  2. Reflector to return the light to a sensor located in the main unit. The sensor will calculate the reduction in light strength.

Horseshoe Design Meters are generally the more affordable style of tint meter. To take a measurement, you roll down your window, then place the U-shaped meter over the window’s edge. A limitation of horseshoe style meters is that they cannot measure rear windows or windscreens.

The window film transmission meter has data lock function. Press the "Hold" button after testing, the data will remain on the interface after taking away the tested materials.

Key Features

Measuring Functions and Indices
The Elcometer SP60 Portable Spectrophotometer provides absolute and difference measurements for the following colourmetric systems. These values can be obtained from any of the nine illuminants with 2° or 10° observer angle: L*a*b*, DL*Da*Db*, L *C*h°, DL*DC*DH*, DE*ab, DECMC, DE CIE94 and XYZ. Whiteness and Yellowness per ASTM E 313-98.

Pass/Fail Mode
The portable spectrophotometer instrument stores up to 1024 standards with tolerances for easy pass/fail measurement. A red/green LED indicator and the LCD display provide visual confirmation of results. A tone also sounds to indicate a fail result and measurement completion.

Quick Colour Compare
A quick measurement can be taken to compare two colours. This allows the operator to take quality control readings in a time efficient manner without having to create tolerances or store data.

The Sphere
SP60’s diffusing sphere is made of Spectalon®, a durable, highly reflective material designed to perform in a rigorous production environment. The diffusing material prevents degradation due to the flaking and chipping of the sphere wall material.

Opacity, Colour Strength and Shade Sorting
The portable spectrophotometer instrument can measure opacity as well as three colour-strength options: chromatic, apparent and tri-stimulus calculations. The Elcometer SP60 Portable Sphere Spectrophotometer also performs 555 shade sorting. This is an important consideration in the colour quality control of manufactured products involving plastics, painted or textile materials.

Texture and Gloss influence
To determine the influence of the specular component, the SP60 Portable Sphere Spectrophotometer allows simultaneous measurement of both specular - included (colour) and specular-excluded (appearance).

Portable chroma meter can measure the color temperature, illuminance, chromaticity, excitation purity, luminous flux, RGB and dominant wavelength of various light sources.

Determining the accuracy of an LE illumination, color temperature measurements are particularly important. This instrument utilizes sensors that closely parallel the color-matching functions specified by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE). Depending on the application Chroma Meter used, results can be displayed through different color notations.

Chroma Meter is design to be a highly effective tool for measuring the color temperature of white LEDs, a task that has been very difficult in the past. it is able to do this due to its ability to measure the chromaticity from the phosphor and also inspect light quality output of the final assembled white LED.

MatchColor is a full software with 6 modules. As far as it is very complete, it is mainly dedicated to big factory which have a color laboratory with colorist using it all day long. The 6 modules are:

1-Color Quality Control with different indexes (WI, YI, Opacity, Color strength) and graphics.

2-Approach Search which allows to classify all colors in a file (spectral or formulas files) from a standard.

3-Colorant Characterization: This module uses a spectral file of all colorants letdowns (some mixtures with white and one with black) and measurements (made in general with quality control module). It allows calculating and displaying the fitting curves of K (light absorption) and S (light diffusion) versus concentration. It allows building up what we call a colorant file.

The instrument can measure opacity as well as three colour-strength options: chromatic, apparent and tri-stimulus calculations. The Elcometer 6085 also performs 555 shade sorting. This is an important consideration in the colour quality control of manufactured products involving plastics, painted or textile materials.

Texture and Gloss Influence

The terms "contrast ratio", "opacity" and "hiding power" are used interchangeably throughout the coatings industry but on this page, in order to simplify matters, only the term opacity will be used. Opacity is defined as the ability of a coating to prevent the transmission of light. A practical example of this is the case where a yellowwall is painted using a red paint. The greater the opacity the red paint, the more efficient it will be at hiding the underlying yellow colour


Opacity is defined by how a wet film of the test coating is applied to a black and white patterned substrate. After the film has dried, a reflectance meter or a spectrophotometer is used to measure the amount of light reflected from the overcoated black areas of the substrate. This is then expressed as a percentage of the amount of light reflected from the overcoated white areas. This value is the opacity of the film.


A paint which is highly opaque will obscure the black and white areas to an equal extent. In this situation, equal amounts of light will be reflected from the overcoated black and white areas and consequently an opacity value of 100% will be obtained.

Online Optical Density Monitor is a non-contact online thickness tester for coating aluminized film, use the principle of optical transmittance to monitor the process of vacuum coating machine and the production line of glass, has two kinds of methods to display: transmittance and optical density.

The material of transmittance (optical density) and a certain proportion relationship with material of coating thickness. So by monitoring materials of optical transmittance (optical density) to achieve the uniformity of monitoring materials, the purpose of the coating thickness. As long as it is light through the material, can be monitored by monitoring the light transmittance product quality. Such as winding vacuum coating, coating, glass/film production line and so on.

System is divided into 3 parts:

a) Detection systems : Includes the source, receiver, controller and aluminum bracket;

b) Human-computer interaction devices : 7 inch LCD MMI, display the transmittance and optical density data of every test points.

c) Computer real-time monitoring system(Optional) : Data record, analysis, reporting, and other functions.

Due to the measured sample of this customer is more special, the card slot of our conventional glass transmittance on-line monitoring device is 20mm wide, can not meet customer needs. So we customized a flexible program, the test points, controllers and human-machine display interface will be provided by our company to test , collect, output and display dates. As for the bracket part,it will be customized according to the customer’s requirements. For this situation, the users will take the installation problem into account because my company doesn’t provide the whole set of glass transmittance on-line monitoring device.

This instrument provides dual RS485 communication interface, the standard MODBUS communication protocol, convenient for communications among LC, single-chip computer, MMI, kingview and computer. Coating machine can read directly optical density data of the equipment to realize the automatic control (closed-loop control).
