Ceramic chips consist of formulated ceramic dielectric materials which have been fabricated into thin layers, interspersed with metal electrodes alternately exposed on opposite edges of the laminated structure. The entire structure is then fired at high temperature to produce a monolithic block which provides high capacitance values in a small physical volume. After firing, conductive terminations are applied to opposite ends of the chip to make contact with the exposed electrodes. Standard end terminations use a nickel barrier layer and a tin overplate to provide excellent solderability for the customer.

A tantalum electrolytic capacitor is an electrolytic capacitor, a passive component of electronic circuits. It consists of a pellet of porous tantalum metal as an anode, covered by an insulating oxide layer that forms the dielectric, surrounded by liquid or solid electrolyte as a cathode.The markings on SMD tantalum capacitors normally consist of three numbers. The first two form the significant figures, and the third is the multiplier. Values are in picofarads. Therefore the SMD tantalum capacitor shown below has a value of 47 x 105pF, which works out to be 4.7µF.
Though tantalum capacitors usually require an external failsafe device to avoid issues caused by their failure mode, they are used in a wide variety of circuits. Some applications include PCs, laptops, medical devices, audio amplifiers, automotive circuitry, cell phones, and other surface-mounted devices (SMD).
Whilst MLCCs are susceptible to aging, polymer tantalums achieve long-term stability over an operational lifetime of 20 years. This longevity also makes polymer tantalums a viable alternative to aluminium electrolytic capacitors which can dry-out in use and may require re-forming after a shelf-life of 2 years or less.

A “tactile switch” is one type of widely used switch that completes an electrical circuit typically when pressure is applied to the device by the user, which then gives the user a perceptible “click” or haptic bump in response, indicating current flow. Current flow is turned off when the switch is released. To give a shorter definition, a tactile switch is a momentary action device whose operation is perceptible by touch. This tangible feedback gives some assurance to the user that the switch has operated and a signal has flowed.
