Bonding (Bonding Of Plaster)


Step1:  Apply with brush or spray following mix on the reinforced concrete over which new concrete has to be done:
  MR. HOMEGAURD FLEXOCRETE 1kg
Water 1kg
 Proper cleaning of the surface has to be done before application of above coat.
Step2: Let the coat achieve tack in 10-15min.
Step3: Apply chat coat of following mortar mix
  Cement 1kg
Cement 1kg
Sand 3kg
Step4:  Proceed with the concreting as usual.

Water Proofing - External Walls / Terrace Surface

Step1

If there are cracks on the terrace surface then open them in a V groove.

Step2:

Apply MR. HOMEGAURD - CRACK FIL for filling the cracks. Alternatively the cracks can be sealed with applying the bond coat of MR. HOMEGAURD - FLEXOCRETE/AP with cement [1:1 by wt] followed by filling up the crack with polymer modified mortar of 1:5:15 ratio of MR. HOMEGAURD:Cement:Quartz Sand. The gradation of quartz sand can be altered depending upon the size of the crack.

Step3:

Fine cracks if any can be sealed with spreading mixture of MR. HOMEGAURD - XP and water in 1:2 proportion.

Step4:

Prepare slurry after surface preparation is over. Following mix is recommended:

MR. HOMEGAURD - XP 1kg
Cement (OPC) / White 1–1.5kg
Water Avoid the usage of water

 (Prepare slurry before 30min of its application).
 (For External Walls the ratio of XP to Cement can be 1:3 by weight).

Step5

Apply slurry by means of brush. Allow it to dry for about 30-60min. Application should be done when the atmospheric temperature is between 5-40oC.

Step6:  After 4 hrs, apply a second coat of similar slurry of same proportion.
Step7

Air cure first for approx 4 hrs and then cure the coating with damp gunny bags for 4-5 days.

Step8

Apply a similar third coat of the MR. HOMEGAURD- XP / Cement slurry in the same proportion if required.

Step9

Finish as required.


Water Proofing - Tank

Step1

Break open the existing coba to expose the bare RCC slab.

Step2:

 If there are cracks on the slab, open the crack in V groove with the help of grinder. Apply MR. HOMEGAURD - CRACK FIL for sealing the cracks.  Alternatively Cracks can also be sealed by coating the inner sides of cracks with MR. HOMEGAURD - AP : Cement (1:1) and filling the cracks with Polymer Modified Mortar:

MR. HOMEGAURD - AP 0.5-1kg
Cement (OPC) / White 5kg
Graded Quartz Sand 15kg

  • Make homogeneous slurry before application. Wet the substrate and apply the Bond Coat with brush. Allow 10-20min before filling the crack.
  • Allow it to cure, both air cure and curing by sprinkling water for 3-4 days.
Step3: For grouting drill holes in the slab and fix nipples. Inject grout by mixing 2.5kg Mr. Home Guard - AP. Add minimum water
for flowability. After grouting is over seal the nipples by polymer modified mortar.
Step4: Apply a waterproof coat of MR. HOMEGAURD - XP. The slurry to be prepared in following manner:

MR. HOMEGAURD - XP 1kg
Cement (OPC) / White 1 – 1.5kg
Water Enough to be able to brush the mixture.
(The slurry should be prepared 30 min before application.)
  • Make homogeneous slurry before application. Wet the substrate and apply the Coat with brush.
  • Allow it to dry for about 30 – 60 min. Application should be done when the atmospheric temperature is more then 10oC.
  • Before the second coat dampen the surface. This coat is to be applied after minimum 4hrs of curing for first coat.
  • Ponding test can be done after atleast 3-4 days of curing.

Step5 Lay the cement mortar while the last layer is still wet. If the last layer is not wet then a bond coat with MR. HOMEGAURD- FLEXOCRETE: Cement (1:1 by wt) can be applied before proceeding further. The mortar used will be polymer modified with MR. HOMEGAURD - AP. Dosage will be 2-20% of cement depending upon specific requirement of the job.Integral Water Proofing agent MR. HOMEGAURD - LW PLUS can be added to the mortar for reducing capillary formation and reducing shrinkage cracks. Curing to be done for at least 7days.
Step6:  Finish as required.

FAQ's


Q. Why is bonding required ?
A. Inadequate bond between two coats may lead to detachment. This problem is found where new coat is to be applied on to the old. To get better cohesion between the two bonding agent is required.
   


Q. What is grout, mortar, concrete ?
A. Grout = Cement + Water
Mortar = Cement + Sand + Water
Concrete = Cement + Sand + Aggregate + Water


Addition of Polymer to Grout i.e. 30% of cement gives Polymer Grout (PG).
Addition of Polymer to Mortar i.e 20% of cement gives Polymer Modified Mortar (PMM).
Addition of More Polymer to Mortar i.e. 40% of cement gives Polymer Rich Mortar (PRM).
   


Q. What is the advantage of adding Mr. HOMEGAURD to the mortar ?
A. AP is acrylic polymer having 45% solids. It helps in better bonding, increasing flexural strength and increasing water impermeability. Due to film formation it also provides anti carbonation properties.

Q. What is importance of Crack Sealing ?
A. Cracks are normally main source of leakage and leads to many serious problems. Also before coating any surface these are to be treated completely. If the cracks re not treated properly then the coats above it may also see crack formation that will lead to leakage again. See Technical Guide on Crack Sealing.
   


Q. Can HOMEGUARD–FLEXICOAT be used as Water Proofing?
A. Yes, the product has high amount resin in it, the product on drying gives high film build which is impervious to water. On above this it is available in shade of any choice. It has high sheen value.
   


Q. How important is crack filing?
A. It is very important. The crack if left as it is has a great tendency to crack the coat above there by causing leakage. Also crack filling to be done with great alertness so that the material filled in the crack does not crack gain.

Crack Sealing

Step1 If there are cracks on the terrace surface then open them in a V groove.
Step2:

Apply MR. HOMEGAURD CRACK FIL for filling the cracks.

Or The cracks can be sealed by
  • Applying the bond coat of MR. HOMEGAURD FLEXOCRETE/AP for filling the cracks.with cement [1:1 by wt]
  • Filling up the crack with polymer modified mortar of 1:5:15 ratio of AP:Cement:Quartz Sand. The gradation of quartz sand can be altered depending upon the size of the crack.
Step3:

Structural Repairs

Step1

Break open the loose and damaged concrete.

Step2:

Remove loose rust and clean the surface by light tapping or hammering.

Step3:

Apply MR. HOMEGAURD - RR by brush on the steel which is rusted. Allow 24hrs before thoroughly cleaning with water.

Step4:

Apply first coat of MR. HOMEGAURD - RP. Take MR. HOMEGAURD - RP + OPC in the ratio 1:2 as required. Mix until a smooth lump free paste is formed. The material should have a
 brushable consistency.

Step5:

Apply similar coat of MR. HOMEGAURD - RR after 4 - 6 hrs.

Step6

After 4-6 hrs apply Bonding coat of MR. HOMEGAURD- FLEXOCRETE. The slurry to be prepared in following manner.

MR. HOMEGAURD 1kg
Cement (OPC) / White 1–1.5kg
Water Enough to be able to brush the mixture.

Make homogeneous slurry before application. Wet the substrate and apply the Bond Coat with brush. Allow 15-20min before applying second coat if required.
Repair plasterwork would start within 15-20min of the application of Bond Coat.

Step7: Prepare polymer modified mortar with MR. HOMEGAURD - AP / PRISM of following composition:

Cement (OPC) 50 kg
River or Washed Sand or Quartz 150 kg
MR. HOMEGAURD - AP / PRISM 10 kg
Water To get a workable consistency
Step8:

Apply Polymeric Seal Coat of  MR. HOMEGAURD- XP: Cement (1:1.5 by weight) if required. The coating should be applied on pre-wetted surface.
Ensure that broken concrete thickness is covered.

Step9:

  Air cure the surface and water cure it by sprinkling water for 3-4 days.

Tile Fixing

Step1

Clean the surface over which tiles have to placed.

Step2:

Prepare Mortar in following ratio:

MR. HOMEGAURD - FLEXOCRETE 1kg
Cement 3kg
Graded Quartz Sand 9kg

 (Mortar of 3mm is sufficient)
  Add water to get dough like consistency.

Step3: Apply the following slurry behind the tile (as the process of priming) before placing it on the surface:

MR. HOMEGAURD - FLEXOCRETE 1kg
Cement 1kg

Water Proofing - Terrace

Step1

Mixing Instruction

 » Use mortar mixer for making of mortar or polymer slurry.
» The liquid part has to be added first to the mixer and then the dry mix (cement and/or sand) to be added. The dry mix has to be added very slowly with continuous mixing so that lump formation is totally avoided.
» Any water to be added should be mixed with the chemical a prior to adding of dry material.
» Only that much quantity of mix has to be made that can be consumed in 30minutes.

FAQ's


Q. If I have a small terrace can I do the water proofing without breaking ?
A. This depends upon the gravity of situation. If roughly less than third of the terrace is deteriorated then one can proceed with surface preparation (crack sealing, grouting etc) and then finish with three coats. See Technical Guide on Water Proofing.
Its always advisable to get the terrace inspected by the professional before proceeding with the treatment.
