Cockroach Management: Habitat Alteration:

• Once cockroaches have been identified infestinga structure, the first choice for control is habitat alteration.Technicians should explain that changes can bemade that will alter or prevent the cockroach population. These recommendations should include how clients can eliminate or restrict material that supports roach populations.

Some recommendations are to:

• Keep food in tightly sealed, roach-resistant containers (paper and cardboard are not roach-resistant).
• Don’t keep leftover food outside. Store leftover food inside a refrigerator with a good seal around the door.
• Store food waste and other organic materials in plastic containers with tight-fitting lids.
• Thoroughly rinse out bottles and cans with soapy water before storing for recycling.

Dehumidify and provide the proper ventilation to dry out moist areas. German roaches survive longer in higher relative humidities.

Method of Gel Application:

• Gel Baiting applicable for cockroaches only
• No clearances required before service
• During a several infestation , it is suggested to spray the area and gel bait a fortnight later
• it is suggested to not use any aerosol including deodorant and pesticides spray at area near or around Gel Baited area
• Care to be taken not to be clean off gel bait spot while cleaning closets

Control and Management

Habitat Alteration

• Close up gaps under doors and around window screens.
• Caulk door and window frames and all wall penetrations.
• Remove vegetation and litter from the foundation, doorways, and window wells.
• Turn off house, building, or area lights that attract flying insects, especially midges.
• Advise clients to look carefully at flowers brought in from the garden and from commercial greenhouses.
• Assure clients that they can swat or vacuum spiders without harm.

Chemical Control

• Pesticide application is very difficult. Indoor treatment is usually effective only if the pesticide contacts the spider directly. This means the technician must have clear access to all spider habitats. Unless efforts are made to exclude spiders (e.g., tighten gaps around entrances, and observe material being brought into the facility), spiders will reenter.

Ants are like all pests, they require food, water, and shelter to survive; by denying them access to any or all of these, you can reduce or eliminate them

Remember

1. Termites are constantly foraging, just because you didn't find termites last year doesn't mean that you won't find them this year
2. Inspect at least once a year
3. Even if an infestation is found, the inspection should be complete and thorough to ensure all points of entry and damage have been found

INSPECTION - The inspection will be concentrated on the possible breeding sites like
For Houseflies - Garbage, manure (horses, cattle, poultry, pet), and filth accumulations
Face flies - Fresh cattle manure for egg laying.
Flesh flies, like blowflies - In pet manure, meat scraps in garbage, and dead animals.
Blowflies - In manure, dead birds, and dead rodents in wall voids and chimneys

Will inspect for sources where buildings are infested.

• Observe sanitation in the areas where flies are problems.
• The most common means of fly entry is through open doors. Look for door props and hooks, as well as gaps where broom handles are stuck over hinges to hold the door open or for doors that do not fit tightly.
• Evaluate garbage management. Garbage left in the building or on loading docks is an attractant.

Habitat Alteration

We will emphasize sanitation to remove food and breeding sites. If sanitation cannot be improved, other methods of control will not be effective. Following recommendations will help in preventing the possible breeding

• Remove breeding materials such as garbage and manure.
• Clean garbage cans and dumpsters regularly, and clean up any fresh overflow immediately.
• Clean food-delivery spills immediately.
• Drain wet areas around garbage collection sites.
• Keep loading docks clean.
• Install air curtains where doors remain open for deliveries, etc.
• Install automatic door closers.
• Replace white security lights inside and outside with yellow lights so flies are not attracted to the building.

Pesticide Application - The techniques used are

• Larviciding: Using Pesticide Sprays in breeding sites. The quantity will depend on the height of the breeding matter
• Residual Spraying : Using Pesticides sprays in all possible resting areas of flies
• Space Spraying: Use aerosols or space sprays where large numbers of flies are active. These formulations will control exposed individuals.
• Hang sticky fly strips/fly glue boards in vulnerable locations

Pre-treatment procedures.

• All rodent entry points into the building must be sealed. Generally the entry points are along:
• Electric, telephone and computer cables.
• Pipe lines running alongside ledges of building or on to roof - tops.
• Openings at bottom of main and back entrance doors.
• Window openings particularly in toilets.
• AC ducts.
• False ceiling to be cleaned regularly.
• Open drains and improper/ broken drain covers.
• Locating rodent harborages, burrows, dumps in the immediate surroundings of the premises and basement.

Once the above are identified, arrangements may please be made at your end to close/ seal the same using a mason/ electrician/ plumber. This will be a regular process and the above will be brought to your notice as and when found during our inspections.

TREATMENT PROCEDURES:

• Sticky glue boards and traps will be placed inside the office area and these will generally be close to wall corners and behind furniture. The glue boards and traps may also be kept in false ceiling to trap rodents in the false ceiling.
• If the false ceiling is very dusty and has not been cleaned for quite some time, rodents with the dusty feet will escape out from the glue traps and leave glue marks all over. If it is difficult to clean the false ceiling due to lack of space, newspapers has to be spread in and round the glue board to avoid glue marks.

POST TREATMENT:

• Generally, we pick up dead rats caught in traps and glue boards, prior to office functioning.
• However, incase any person from client is present earlier to our pickup, care should be taken in handling the rodent.

Chemical Method:

Rodenticides are essentially the chemicals which are used for killing Rodents. To do this effectively they need to have a high level of toxicity against which they are targeted.
Rodents are mammals; therefore, chemicals that can kill rodents effectively are also likely to have high levels of toxicity against other mammals including Man.

Rodenticides are kept in Bait Boxes to avoid secondary poisoning and contamination

Bait Boxes

A tamper-proof bait box is designed so that a child or pet cannot get to the bait inside, but the rat can.

Ants are like all pests, they require food, water, and shelter to survive; by denying them access to any or all of these, you can reduce or eliminate them.

Control methods Habitat Alteration

• Where nests are located inside, remove and replace infested structural wood.
• Stop the intrusion of moisture.
• Advise the client to or perform caulking and screening of actual and potential ant entryways.
• Ventilate areas where moisture accumulates, re grade where necessary and repair roofing, guttering etc.
• Recommend trimming trees where branches touch a structure or overhang roofs. Tree removal may be necessary.

Pesticide Application

• Eliminating colonies and nesting sites is a primary way to eliminate Black Ants and Red Ants infestation. We Use pesticidal dust or pressurized sprays in the nests. The treatment will be extended to the trails so that maximum control is achieved.

Inspection:

Inspection will be done to find out the intensity of mosquitoes in different areas and also analyzing the breeding sites of mosquitoes

Control measures Prevention (Habitat Alteration)

• Avoid water stagnation
• Eliminate all empty water containers such as plant pot, coconut shell, plastic trays, buckets, tires etc
• Tightly cover all water barrels, water tanks, septic tanks
• Do not allow sewage or other liquid wastes to collect on ground
• Empty, wash and refill bird baths and animal watering containers at least once a week
• Keep rain gutters clean and flat roofs dry
• Drain stagnant water and fill the swampy places
• Fill tree holes to prevent collecting water

Chemical Control

The management of mosquito population by the use of pesticides is essential since the larvae, pupae and adults are to be destroyed.

Larviciding (Larval Control):

This is aimed at solving the mosquito problem by killing the larvae, because by this the mosquitoes are controlled before they become a menace. This is achieved by spraying the recommended larvicides in possible breeding sites. This may vary according to the habitat of different species of mosquitoes

The application of larvicides should only be made at sites where larvae of the target species are found. The degree of control obtained with larvicide applications depends on the amount of pollution in the water, as well as the type and amount of vegetation present in the treated area. Repeated larviciding treatments may be needed for effective control of larvae.

Adulticiding (Adult Control):
Aerial Application:

Application of insecticides by fixed-wing aircraft or helicopters for the control of adult population is a common practice. This method is not generally feasible for cost area because of its high cost and adverse affect on environment

Aerosol Application:

Aerosols are applied for control of mosquitoes outdoors using specialized equipments that dispense insecticides in extremely small droplets. Aerosols work as a contact toxicant and have no residual effect. Aerosols are dispensed from the equipment and allowed to drift with the wind through the target area and is advisable when the drift velocity of the wind is low.

Residual spraying (Surface Spraying):

Residual pesticides are usually applied on the resting area of adult mosquitoes. This type of application requires expertise and should consider the non targeted population also.

The Advanced Lizard Management treatment provides an effective control of Lizard. The lizards have become one of the most important urban pests. There is no single or one answer for Lizard control . However, it's a combination ofbaiting, trapping & proofing methods (you have to do the proofing against Lizard entry as per our recommendation).
Lizards are common pests in buildings that are surrounded by vegetarian or are close to areas of dense and shaded plants. There are several different types that naturally occur around houses and other buildings, they may be a pest according to the season or geographic region. Lizards are pests simply by their presence indoors; they do not live or infest indoor areas, but come in from surrounding vegetation. These animals may contaminate products.

Mode of treatment:

Lizards are active primarily during daylight. They move indoors during the early evening or early morning in search of insects that are attracted to lights at night. Lizards feed primarily on insects and spiders; they especially prefer ants. They are solitary animals, but they may occur in large numbers where there is abundant vegetation and moist conditions. These animals can easily walk on smooth surfaces, such as walls and ceiling. Their only protection is a tall that breaks off and their speedy retreat when they are startled.
The treatment aims at use of spray targeted towards the live Lizard and is confined to non-production areas. For production area, use of physical control can be undertaken. However, emphasis needs to be given on preventive methods implemented by your staff. This treatment will be carried out at certain specific times of the day/night, which depends upon the behavior of lizards.
There is no single or one answer for Lizard control. However, it's a combination of baiting, trapping & proofing methods).
