Assam Engineering College

The Chemical Engineering Department was started in 1963 and has an annual intake capacity of 60 students for B.E. degree course. It is the only department in the whole of North-East India, besides IIT Guwahati, offering an under-graduate course in Chemical Engineering. The department also possesses specially equipped laboratories for students which are recognized by Gauhati University for research work in Chemical Engineering leading to a Ph. D. degree under the University. The Department aims to meet the growing need for well-qualified chemical engineer who will meet the expanding industry’s requirements in design, manufacturing and marketing segments.

The Chemistry Department was established in 1955 along with the establishment of Institute. It has been one of the best departments in terms of infrastructural facilities and faculties. It has got many well equipped Labs with modern equipment ranging from the highly equipped chemistry Lab to the latest PCs in the chemistry Labs. Besides teaching, the highly qualified and energetic faculty members of the Department have contributed a lot to elevate the prestige of the institute through their research activities of international standard.

The Department of Civil engineering, established in 1955, was the first branch introduced in this college. The department boasts of highly qualified faculty and well-equipped labs for field work.The annual intake capacity is 90 students per semester in B.E. degree course and 25 students in the M.E. degree course. This department also offers a Ph.D. degree in Soil Mechanics & Hydraulics. However, it has a variable intake.
