TOEFL, administered via the internet, is an important part of your journey to study in an English-speaking country. in addition to the test, the acct program provides tools and guides to help you prepare for the test and improve your English-language skills.

TOEFL measures your ability to use and understand English at the university level. it also evaluates how well you combine your listening, reading, speaking and writing skills to perform academic tasks. there are two formats for the TOEFL Coaching Classes. the format you take depends on the location of your test center. most test takers take the TOEFL internet based test. test centers that do not have internet access offer the paper-based test (PBT).

Structure of test

There are always four sections in TOEFL, done in this order: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. The number of questions in Reading varies from 36 to 70 questions. The number of Listening questions varies from 34 to 51. There are always 6 tasks in Speaking and 2 tasks in Writing.

Total Time- Total time provided to complete the test is four hours for internet based test and three hours for paper based test.
Reading

Internet Based Test

Reading section consists of 3-5 passages from academic texts with each of them being approximately 700 words long. The passages are multi focus and 12-14 questions are posed from each of the passage. Total time given to complete this section ranges from 60-100 minutes.

Paper Based Test

Reading section includes 5 passages from academic texts with each of them being approximately 350-400 words long. 10 questions are asked from each of the passage. Total time available to complete this section is 55 minutes.
Listening

Internet Based Test

Listening section has two tasks- In first task, candidates are made to listen 4-6 lectures- each of them of a duration of 3-5 minutes. 6 questions are directed towards candidate from each lecture.

In second task, candidate has to listen 2-3 conversations, each of them being 3 min long. 5 questions are posed from each conversation.

The time available to complete this section is 60-90 minutes.

Paper Based Test

Listening section consists of three tasks- In first task, candidate hears 3-4 mini talks, each being 60-90 seconds long. 3-5 questions are posed from each talk.

In second task, 2-3 extended conversations are included with each of them being 60-90 seconds long. 3-5 questions from each conversation are asked.

In third task, 30-40 dialogues are played out which are about 5-15 seconds long. 1 question from each dialogue is posed.

Total time available to complete this section is 30-40 minutes.
Speaking

Speaking test is only conducted in internet based format. This section consists of 6 tasks. Two out of them are independent task where the candidate is required to express his/her opinion on a given topic. Rest of the four are integrated tasks where candidates are supposed to speak on the basis of what is heard and read. 30 seconds are given to prepare the response and 1 minute is given to respond. Total time available for this section is 20 minutes.
Writing

Internet Based Test

This section includes two tasks- one integrated task where the candidate has to write on the basis of what is heard and read and one independent task where a candidate is supposed to write expressing their independent opinions on a topic.

Structure of the test

Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) – AWA consists of a 30 minute writing task where a candidate is required to present an analysis of an argument and also provide a critique of the argument. Essay will be given two independent ratings on the scale of 1-6 where 1 stands for an essay that is deficient and 6 stands for an essay that is outstanding. The two ratings are averaged together to form the final AWA score of a candidate.

Integrated Reasoning– This section is a relatively new entrant in GMAT. It was first introduced in June 2012 and is designed to measure a test taker’s ability to assess data and statistics in different formats. There are 12 questions of four different types: table analysis, graphic interpretation, multi source reasoning and two part analysis. The scores in this section range between 1-8.

Quantitative section– This section measures a candidate’s ability to reason quantitatively and analyze quantitative data. Questions are basically of two types: problem solving and data sufficiency. Both question types assess the test taker’s ability to reason quantitatively. Scores are given in the range of 0-60, however usually scores lie in the range of 11 and 51.
