What makes Edgar unique?

  1. It has a controlled V-OUT voltage output, that can power an external device and remotely turn it on and off. The VOUT output can be 5, 9, 12 or 24 V and can be controlled via WEB or HTTP GET.
  2. HTTP GET communication allowing an easy access to the serial port from a WEB server.
  3. Wide range of power voltage 11 – 58 V DC.

A classic TCP server, TCP client or UDP can be used for communication. In addition to standard communications, Edgar WiFi can send packets from / to the serial line via HTTP GET. The data packet can be sent as HTTP GET request from the web server. Similarly, if the data are sent to a serial line – e.g. from a connected bar code reader - the converter can send the data to the web server as HTTP GET request.

Edgar comes in a rugged metallic enclosure and can be DIN rail mounted (optional).

Power output VOUT

VOUT power output can power the connected device as well. Therefore, no additional power supply is needed. Power output can be switched on or off using the web interface or by HTTP GET, thus a power consumption can be decreased or the attached device can be restarted.

So what can SB232 do, what is it good for?

On most new laptops, there are no serial ports nowadays, or in the best case, there is one. That is often insufficient and that is where the USB to serial converter comes in. SB232 is an ideal companion for field application engineers working on often expensive legacy devices. These devices and their laptops have to be protected from ground loops too. Most USB to serial converters fail on that due to missing galvanic isolation. However SB232 offers full galvanic isolation while being powered from the USB port. Being put in anodized aluminum box, it is also very robust so it won't matter if you drop it by accident.

Virtual COM port principal - A standard COM port appears in your Windows OS

SB232 offers full RS232 line - all RS232 signals are transmitted and connector pinout is identical to a hardware COM port on a PC. Windows drivers also allow you to set parameters to sped up the data transfer and alter the handshake signals. But default values are sufficient in most cases.

Wiegand is a standard interface used in contactless card readers. Wie232 is able to convert the Wiegand interface to a format usable by a standard serial port (RS232). Thus, standard contactless card readers can be easily connected to a PC or similar system.

Wie232 converts Wiegand protocols to a format suitable for a serial port (RS232, COM port). The output of Wie232 is the number of the card read by the reader in the form of text in the ASCII format or in binary format. This enables further processing of the card number by a PC software or another system to be carried out very easily.

The Wie232 module processes data using the following protocols: Wiegand 26, 30, 32, 34, 40 or 42. Wie232 can also communicate with a standard RFID reader with JA-80H keyboard. (Other versions of the Wiegand protocol can be added upon request.) The required type of Wiegand protocol can be chosen using the switch on the upper side of the device.

Wiegand is a standard interface used in contactless card readers. Wiegand to RS485 bidirectional interface converter. Thus, standard contactless card readers can be easily connected to a PC or similar system wia RS485 interface.

Wiegand is a standard communication protocol used by contactless card readers. Wie485 allows you (1) to convert the protocol to the standard industrial RS485 bus. Thanks to Wie485 so you can easily connect standard contactless readers with Wiegand protocol to the PC. Wie485 can (2) can also generate the Wiegand protocol – i.e. to simulate contactless readers.

The output of Wie485 is either the number of the presented card, or directly a set of all bits received by Wiegand protocol, which can be read by RS485 using the MODBUS RTU protocol. Wie485 can also generate Wiegand based on information received via MODBUS RTU.

The current mode – i.e. Wiegand ––> RS485 or RS485 ––> Wiegand conversion – can be selected via switches on the top side.

Wie485 is a MODBUS Slave device processing data in Wiegand protocols (any type: 1 to 64 bit). As for generating Wiegand, Wie485 can generate Wiegand in lengths of up to 64 bits. The RS485 line in the converter is galvanically isolated from other parts of the device.
