Woodward’s group controller, GC-3400XT is designed to manage virtually any large scale power generation system you can imagine. It enables you to command up to 248 gensets, with complete genset management, synchronization, dead bus prioritization, load share, and load dependent start/stop capabilities, in combination with Woodward’s easYgen-3400XT/3500XT equipped genset controllers. These controllers come with stand-ardized software that is simple to configure, yet easily customizable for individual applications. Peer-to-peer communication between the controls and load share line redundancy at each level ensures single-fail-safe op-eration of your power generation control system. The GC-3400XT is based on a scalable multi-master control concept to combine up to 31x easYgen-3000XT equipped gensets with one group controller in a group. The groups are scaled up to x8, i.e. a total up to 248 gensets can be managed in an application. The data flow within the group is handled by CAN or Ethernet or CAN & Ethernet bus. The group controller collects and sorts the data of its group and acts like a “Big Genset” control to the other GCs. The data flow among the group controllers is handled by second communication bus Ethernet B or Ethernet C or Ethernet B & C. Through the decoupling of the overall data flow, the bus bandwidth is kept low and the single genset operation is kept safe, should a group controller become the point of failure. The Woodward MSLC-2™ is a microprocessor based load control designed for three-phase electric power generation sites equipped with our DSLC-2™ (Digital Synchronize and Load Controls). Woodward combines the original MSLC with a decade of application experience, to develop the new MSLC-2.

The MSLC-2™ is a synchronize, a utility load sensor, an import/export load level control, a power factor control, and a master process control. Applications include power systems which operate in parallel with single- or multiple-utility feeds, as well as new capabilities for multiple segment and intertie breaker control.

For utility parallel systems, the MSLC-2 provides either phase matching or slip frequency automatic synchronizing of the local plant bus to the main power grid through one or several main breakers. The MSLC-2’s load sensor and load control sense true RMS power and provide smooth loading and unloading against the power grid.

Plant voltage is matched to the utility prior to paralleling. Operating modes can be base load or import/export/process power levels against the utility. Power factor or VAR levels are precisely controlled. The MSLC-2 communicates via

Ethernet to control real and reactive loading against the utility by DSLC-2 equipped generators. 32 generators equipped with DSLC-2s can be paralleled to the utility with up to eight individual bus segments. For isolated multiple generator systems, the MSLC-2 can be used to operate tie breakers between groups of generators using the DSLC-2 controls.

The IKD 1 is an I/O extension board. It allows an additional 8 discrete inputs and 8 relay outputs to be connected via CAN bus to the Woodward generating set controllers series GCP-30 and easy gen. It is possible to connect multiple Woodward IKD 1 cards to each of the gen set controllers. The IKD 1 can be programmed via a PC configuration tool or directly via Logic Manager TM in the easy gen series controllers.
