A Chartered Engineers (CE) Certification is required to import old or used Plants and Machinery to India. A CE Certification is required for the machinery prior to shipment and give its opinion in form of a CE Certificate regarding the condition and balance life of machinery, current market value for assessment of duty, contents including spare parts, etc. It is mandatory to produce this CE Certificate during customs clearance for such goods in India. 
In addition, CE certificates are desired by the funding agencies for installation of machines / equipment for which finance is given by the funding agencies. There are many other instances where CE certification would be sought for compliance to standards /specifications.
