A “Metal Deactivator” is an additive which deactivates metal atoms so that the metal does not react with or degrade a plastic and its additives, when in contact. “Metal Deactivator” prevents polymer degradation through oxidation by deactivating metal atoms. Degradation can lead to loss of physical, mechanical and optical properties. Metals like, Copper, Iron, Cobalt, are very active catalysts for hydroperoxide decomposition. Due to excellent rigidity, lower density and integral hinging properties, Polypropylene Homopolymer (PPHP) is widely used in manufacturing ‘house-hold’ products. The ‘tackiness’ is more prominent in thinner gauge films, causing handling and packaging difficulties. Some of the film grades contain “Slip Additive”, but may not be adequate for some of the applications and need additional quantity of “Slip Additive” during extrusion.

Adequate quantity of slip additive when added, the film exhibit lower ‘coefficient of friction’ thereby ease of handling and gloss. Slip Additives never get mixed with the polymer, but it appears on the surface of the polymers. Once the film extruded, the complete effectiveness of ‘slip’ requires some time, so that the additive migrates on the surface of the film. This phenomenon is called as ‘blooming’ of ‘Slip’. Commercial slip additives are various Amide derivatives. Depending on the type of Amide and atmospheric condition, the complete ‘blooming’ time requires between 48 to 72 hours. Recommended doses of BLS SHINE Slip Masterbatch will exhibit 0.20-0.40 ‘coefficient of kinetic friction’ on the film, when tested as per BS 2508-1984/ASTM D-1894/ISO 8295.

Once the film extruded, the complete effectiveness of ‘slip’ requires some time, so that the additive migrates on the surface of the film. This phenomenon is called as ‘blooming’ of “Slip”. The BLS DARK-BRIGHT Black Masterbatches contain highly dispersed carbon particles in resin matrix. High flow LLDPE carrier resin base specially formulated masterbatches with highly-dispersed carbon particles has been achieved to overcome the force of attraction between the carbon black particles and making the carbon particles uniformly wetted by the resin. This brings rheological improvement in masterbatches, thus easy flowability.

Exposure to ultraviolet rays from sunlight degrades polymers and thereby reducing their strength. Carbon Black is the cheapest and one of the excellent UV stabilizers. Uniform dispersion of small inorganic Carbon Black particles in organic polymer matrix is an important factor to impart effective UV stabilization. Higher the loading of Carbon Black particles, difficult to disperse in Polymer matrix.

The BLS Black Masterbatches are highly filled using special dispersing agent in place of low molecular weight waxes. The low molecular weight waxes in the black masterbatches will result in lowering of some properties like tensile strength and elongation percentage of the final product. Due to higher loading of Carbon Black, MFI of the masterbatches would be less than 1.0 gm/10 min and density should be in the range of 1.0 to 1.2 gm/cc.

Depending on product thickness and colour intensity, the concentration of masterbatch will vary. Dispersion technology, coupled with specific base raw materials allows processors to achieve the highest degree of opacity using minimum quantities of masterbatch. The BLS WHITE Masterbatches contain finely dispersed Rutile Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) in resin matrix. High flow LLDPE carrier resin base specially formulated masterbatches with highly-dispersed Titanium Dioxide particles will offer optimum opacity to a product.

Due to specialty dispersing agent and compounding machine, high loading of TiO2 could be possible in the resin, without sacrificing quality. These masterbatches show excellent performance in PE base Monolayer and Multilayer films, Sheets and all kinds of Moulded products.

UV radiation and oxygen in the air trigger decomposition processes in plastic products. Decomposition not only affects their appearance, but also adversely affects their mechanical and physical properties. White being a prominent colour, it gradually becomes yellowish and finally becomes brownish. To reduce UV degradation effect, specially formulated White Masterbatces are also in the range of BLS White Masterbatches. These Masterbatches are in combination with specially selected UV Absorber and a Quencher. An absorber which absorbs harmful UV radiation, dissipating it as harmless heat energy. The SILANE CROSSLINKED Moisture Curable PE insulating compound is based on LLDPE resin, together with proper additive such as silane crosslinking agent, initiator and anti-oxidant. The compounds are made in a twin screw extruder and available in pellet form. Combination with the compound, suitable catalyst masterbatches is also supplied.

BLS XL 101/102 is a grade for upto 1.1 KVA power cables. Whereas, BLS XL 201/202 is a grade designed for upto 10 KVA power cables. The two components, BLS 101/201 is the Silane Crosslinked Grafted compound and BLS 102/202 is the Catalyst Masterbatch. The two components required to be mixed at a ratio of 95:5 before extrusion. BLS 101/201 and BLS 102/202 are in natural colour. Colouring can be done by adding colour masterbatches externally during mixing of two components.

Maintaining suitable temperature parameters in extruder, good shine and easy processability can be achieved. Less than 1 mm thick cables need lesser dosing of BLS 102/202 Catalyst Masterbatch. It is recommended to pre-die BLS 102/202 Catalyst Masterbatch and Colour Masterbatch at 60 degree centigrade in 4-6 mm layer for 12 hours in a circulating air oven. Post extrusion curing is required, either immersing in hot water at 80-85 degree centigrade or exposing to steam in a steam chember. The curing time depends on insulation thickness.

In any case opened bag should not be stored. Intact bags should be stored in ambient temperature, i.e. 30-35 degree centigrade.in a dry place. Avoid exposure to sunlight during storage. We recommend using the product before 120 days from the date of manufacturing.

Plastics are excellent insulator but can support to build-up of high static charges due to triboelectric effect. Static electrical charges are produced by separation caused by friction of two materials between each other. Such as during extrusion, film passes over rollers or by incidental contact between plastic parts during transport or storage. The build-up of static charges can pose difficulties, such as handling, attraction of dust from atmosphere, electrical shock, etc. The phenomenon is more prominent in presence of moisture. ‘Anti-static’ agents are chemicals, which eliminates the risk of built-up charges in a plastic product. There are two types of ‘Anti-static’ agents, namely, External and Internal.

External ‘Anti-static’ agent is coated on the surface of a product to reduce static charge. However, the effect is limited. Internal ‘Anti-static’ agent when incorporated in plastics through a suitable masterbatch form during processing, the chemical homogeneously distribute in the plastics. Gradually it migrates to the surface of the product and either gives a conductive surface coating or by absorbing atmospheric moisture to improve surface conductivity.
