Tracoe Twist Double Lumen Fenestrated Tracheostomy Tube Uncuffed

The TRACOE twist and TRACOE twist plus tracheostomy tubes are used as ventilation and therapy tubes with inner cannulas in hospitals, rehabilitation, and community settings. A special feature of TRACOE twist tubes is the anatomically shaped neck flange that moves in both the vertical and horizontal axes. Patients can turn their heads freely, without the tracheostomy tube exerting any strong pressure on the trachea. It is easy to attach or exchange the neck strap while the tube is in situ.
Sizing of the two product lines always corresponds to the inside diameter of the inner cannula. For example, when it says 8 mm on the neck flange, the lumen of the inner cannula is 8 mm.

For breathing and ventilation, the lumen should be as large as possible – that is why the internal measurement is given. For the patient, every millimetre counts. If the diameter of the lumen is reduced from 8 to 7 mm, the air supply is 41 % less and there is a huge increase in the effort required to breathe. Changing from 8 to 9 mm increases the air supply by 60 %, while the effort required to breathe remains the same.*

To prevent irritation of the airways, due to dry air, dust or harmful substances contained in the air, a filter is required. So Heat/Moisture Exchanger (HME) helps to keep your lungs healthy by humidifying and filtering the air that you breathe. Air-HME more useful during day while physical activity is more, since it has the lowest breathing resistance. Provox Voice Prosthesis

Speaking with a voice prosthesis gives you the most natural sounding and easy to understand voice. Learn more about what a voice prosthesis is and what to consider when you get yours.

How it works

A voice prosthesis is a plastic device, usually made of medical grade silicone. It will be placed between the food pipe (your esophagus) and windpipe (your trachea) during the total laryngectomy, or in a secondary puncture.

The voice prosthesis has two flanges to keep it in place – one at the side of the food pipe and one at the side of the windpipe. Between these flanges there is a smaller tube which contains a one-way valve. This valve will open when speaking, and close while breathing and eating to prevent any foreign bodies entering your windpipe (e.g. saliva, food or drink).

By occluding your stoma, the exhaled air will be redirected through the voice prosthesis into your food pipe. As this air travels through your food pipe, the tissue will vibrate and create a sound. This is called tracheaesophageal speech (TE speech).

These days tracheoesophageal speech has proven to be the most successful method to be able to speak again after a total laryngectomy.

Positive Closure  a patented closed position “No Leak” design

The “No Leak” design of the Passy-Muir Valves (PMVs) means that the valve is always in a closed position until the patient inhales. The valve opens easily with less than normal inspiratory pressures and closes automatically at the end of the inspiratory cycle without air leak and without patient expiratory effort.

Closed System:

Unlike open position speaking valves, the closed position of the PMV allows the patient to creates a positive airway pressure and restores the patient to a more normal “closed respiratory system.” The “closed system” also creates a protective column of air in the tracheostomy tube which resists secretions from moving up the tube and occluding the valve. Instead, secretions may be coughed up around the tube and expectorated or suctioned from the mouth.
