Chennai School Of Music Therapy

The Programme is foundational, conducted online and designed to train the participants on  music therapy basics and principles, methods and procedures on theoretical level apart from  introducing Indian music healing systems and the ways it could be integrated into contemporary music therapy practice. The programme also aims to acquaint the participants to communicate  therapeutically through music by using music and its elements. Further, this foundational training programme prepares and motivates the students to take up a professional course on music therapy offered by the School to become a certified music therapist.

This program is a flexible option for mature individuals who have a bachelor’s degree in music or those with degrees in related fields (e.g.,  psychology, special education, occupational therapy, Social Work, Nursing etc.) making a career change as music therapists. The Post Graduate Diploma Program prepares the individuals to begin professional  practice of music therapy on the completion of all the music/music therapy courses, competencies, and supervised clinical internship in hospitals/clinics/non-governmental organizations/ rehabilitation centres working on mental health, geriatric care, neurologic rehabilitation, special education etc. The course also offers mentoring to the PGDMT students  to develop  skills and knowledge for specializations in areas such as oncology, palliative care, research and training.

In online self learning method, after a pre assessment of the student's existing skills on the module, the specific lessons relating to the module are uploaded in the e library for the student  to read,,understand and learn in his own pace and time and with the different other learning components like activity, reading and writing assignments, there  will be an end-of -the-module assessment  to measure the learning outcomes. In the online direct teaching method,  the students have to attend the classes online on designated days of the week for the period as specified for each course.
