Production of Acetone
Acetone is produced using various production methods. Some of them are as follows -
Cumene Process - In this process, Cumene(Isopropyl Benzene) is heated in presence of Oxygen (air) to form Cumene Hydroden peroxide which is converted to Acetone and Phenol in presence of Hydrochloric Acid and Water
From Alkane Nitriles - Reaction of Grignard reagent with alkane nitriles followed by hydrolisis results in formation of ketones. So, Ethane nitrile reacts with Methyl Magnesium to give Acetone
Oxidation of Isopropyl Alcohol - Ketones are prepared by controlled oxidation of secondary alcohol. Using an acidified solution of Potassium Dichromate. To prepare "Acetone" alcohol required is Isopropyl Alcohol.

Production of Cyclohexanone
Cyclohexanone is produced by the oxidation of cyclohexane in air, typically using cobalt catalysts. The oxidation involves radicals and the intermediacy of the hydroperoxide C6H11O2H. In some cases, purified cyclohexanol, obtained by hydration of cyclohexene, is the precursor. Alternatively, cyclohexanone can be produced by the partial hydrogenation of phenol. This process can also be adjusted to favor the formation of cyclohexanol.
Storage and Handling
• Handling - Wear personal protective equipment. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Ensure adequate ventilation. Avoid ingestion and inhalation. Keep away from open flames, hot
surfaces and sources of ignition. Use only non-sparking tools. Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Use explosion-proof equipment.
• Storage Keep containers tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place. Keep away from heat and sources of ignition. Flammables area.

Uses
Cyclohexanone is an important chemical raw material and is the main intermediate for the manufacture of nylon, caprolactam and adipic acid. It is also an important industrial solvent, for example for paints, especially those containing nitrocellulose, vinyl chloride polymers and their copolymers or methacrylate polymer paints. Excellent solvent for pesticides such as organophosphorus pesticides and many analogues, used as a solvent for dyes, as a viscous solvent for piston-type aviation lubricating oils, as a solvent for greases, waxes, and rubbers. Solvents for fibers, resins, rubbers, waxes, shellac and DDT, organic synthesis, can dissolve many complexes formed by elements and organic reagents, determine cesium, and extract reagents for rare metals such as uranium, thorium, cobalt, and titanium.
